Upsell to Owner's Suite on Fantasy Class Ships.....Does it happen?

We did get the call and moved from a cat.12 to OS1 on the Imagination this past July. The cabin was very large and great improvement over the cat.12. The balcony was off the side and not as nice as a cat.12 balcony IMO. We did hear people running every morning on the jogging track. That was not so bad. The real issues were the crew could not find the room. Our luggage got lost because the baggage handlers could not find the cabin, room service could not find the cabin repeatedly. The wall outlets beside the bed were set for european outlets. The pursers desk wanted to charge us to covert the outlets to 120 volts. We had to get the hotel director to correct the problem.

It was great to experience the Owners Suite once. I would not do it again.

I know that this summer they did totally revamp the pricing structure for the OS. When booking direct (perhaps assuming you have the right contacts) instead of now being a set price above the Cat 12 rate as it used to be, now it's ~ $400 per person per day, or $500 pp/pd if a holiday sailing. A couple weeks prior to our 9/3/09 Sensation sailing I did make an inquiry about rates and availability (I was toying with the thought) and was given the information - I declined. When I got the upsell call,it was a couple of hundred (total) less than what I had been quoted.

Tom

Couple of hundred less in total or per day????......

From the outside looking in, it appears they are ping ponging off the wall in terms of these suites (price, availability, etc.). Seemed to have walked away from the concept after the earlier Fantasy class....then did the upgrades to Liberty over the bridge.....maybe they are experimenting.

I wish that they'd experimented with the Dream class - but they missed the chance to place a couple of truly upgraded suites there...

It was a couple of hundred off (total).

We cruised in the OS on the Ecstasy. It ruined us forever. Now it's at least a cat 12 or nothing. I know that may sound bad, but Carnival knew what they were doing when the gave it us.

We had booked two ajoining interiors for our family of 4. Kids were 10 and 1. Carnival called the day before and offered us the OS as an upgrade. I figured they could sell our two interiors at the last minute or were overbooked. I think they looked at our reservation, saw that the OS would accomodate us and made the offer.

The balcony is huge comparead to the cat 12 balcony and we never had to go down to the Lido and fight for a chair because we were already overlooking it. We loved everything about it. The crib fit in the bathroom vanity area so everyone had their own space. That was July 2008. We have cruised Carnival five times since then with two more booked and we always ask about it. Sometimes they tell us they don't rent it to the public and sometimes the price is too high for us. We haven't had it again, but we will never have an inside again either, (unless it's an ajoining cabin to our suite for the kids). I know it is a once in a lifetime upgrade, but I will still hope it happens again.

They sometimes call it PH-1 or PH-2.

I got the call yesterday to upgrade from our Cat 12 SS to the OS.... Of course with my cruising addiction, I couldn't turn them down! 2 weeks from tomorrow I'll be in the freshly remodled OS on the Ecstasy for my 30th birthday and I CAN'T WAIT!!

I think so, and thank you!

I've been drooling over your OS pics for the last 24 hours, lol.

I see that you are Platinum, and that priority embarkation is nice, but you will REALLY enjoy the OS embarkation... they'll escort you right into your cabin - and you don't have to wait to go there (1:30) like everyone else !

Yeah in the email that they sent with all the OS info they said "the ship staff will know who you are when you get there, so be prepared to be treated like royalty." And here I was thinking that my platinum perks were great, lol.

JHale, it seems we have alot in common. We're in Katy also (well Richmond, but I'm on 99 just south of 1093). and I just celebrated my 30th!

You give me hope that maybe we will get the call to move from our Cat 12 SS to the owner's suite. We're sailing on the Ecstasy in 3 weeks, so we're just behind yall. Do you mind if I ask what the offer was to upgrade to the Owner's Suite? Was it the usual $350 per day that I've seem repeatedly on the boards. I hope you have an awesome birthday and take some pics of the room! I'd love to see the remodel!

Ok, now I'm just green with envy! I was just talking to my husband about your upgrade and he gave my full permission to accept the upgrade on the spot, should carnival call with the owner's suite. So now I'm going outside to wish upon a star!

We're right off Barker Cypress and W. Little York, but we have a ton of friends that live off 99 and 1093 in the Falcon Point/Seven Meadows areas. Have you lived out here a long time? I grew up out here (Mayde Creek HS) left for a minute and came back.

We paid an additional 1500 for the OS, not something I would do normally, I'm perfectly content with my cat 12, well now that there are more balconies on the Ecstasy they'll work too. I just couldn't pass it up, being my b-day and all I just used that as an excuse, lol.

My daughter and hubby took the upgrade on the Fantasy to the owners suite last month ..... it was not worth the money .... the Balcony stinks.... all you can see is the top of the lifeboats..... the service was horrible.... our room steward had to call her room steward to get ice.... ( she said she forgot ) .... after being ask twice.... that was the first day.... and it only got worse from there....

I could tell several of those stories... but I won't ....

Our service however, ..... was great.... I think the room stewards know that if it is an upgrade,, and not some super wealthy special person that would be able to book it from the beginning... and they just didn't care.....

The extra space is nice but I don't think it is that much better than the Penthouse .....

Why is your post so wide?

We're in Long Meadows Farm, just past the new Walmart and just before the new Kroger. We just moved here a couple of months ago. We're originally from Mississippi but we've been in Texas for about eight years now, so its home. We just moved over from Beaumont.

I think the splurge will make for an unforgetable 30th birthday! Thanks for sharing the cost. I'm like you, I normally would just stick with my Cat 12 SS, but this is our first vacation since we had DD and so I've got last year to make up for too! I hope you guys have a great cruise and enjoy!

We're practically right down the street from you. ;) We used to live at Hwy 6 and W Little York, then moved to Cypress 3 1/2 years ago.

Jealous of your OS upgrade! I'm very happy with our ES (former SS, former 12 pre-balcony upgrade), but just once...

We lived in Cypress for a little over a year and came back, we were in Yaupon Ranch for a while.

Yeah, I still want to do the extended cat 12. My MIL is staying in one on this cruise coming up so I'll at least get to see it and take pictures for everyone on the boards.

WAHOOO! After starting this thread with little hope that I would get the call, it happened! WAHOOO! I just can't contain myself! They called this afternoon, just 12 days out with the upsell, and while it was alittle more than I wanted to spend, I just couldn't pass it up!

He also told me that the Ecstasy Owner's Suites were renovated during the dry-dock with the same upgrades and decor as the Sensation! Since I've heard from some of you "frequent flyers" of the owners suite that the Sensation is the nicest, I figured "Let's do it!"

Thanks to everyone here for your help and info! Jhale, please take good care of it for me!

Tom,

Thanks for all the GREAT information about the Fantasy class owner's suites. You are clearly the foremost authority! I was able to book one on the Sensation for Aug 26th. All of my research and info... and pictures... and videos came from your posts and photo albums. Thanks for posting such great information. I'm really looking forward to the trip.

I've seen all the pictures and read all the info on the Owner's Suites. Last cruise on the Ecstasy we ran into two ladies who were booked in one and we toured it. Huge, very nice, but definitely not worth the money. Balcony is not as good as the extended Cat 12s. The girls said the loud music and noises from the Lido deck was a bit much. We were in the cabin at three in the afternoon and the room wasn't even made up. They had called the room steward, but no show yet. You can spend the money if you want, I guess. But more than once is silly. ;)

I was in the OS on the Ecstasy for my birthday last year and had the same issues with the room being made up/turned down. We had to call room service for ice, our room steward never took care of it. The lido deck noise didn't bother us, but the "OS booking department's"

excuses did later. They offered me the room again 3 months later for another cruise and were trying to tell me it was a brand new program, of course I knew better. In the end they eneded up telling me that I'd paid to expierience the room, so regardless of the service I'd gotten my money's worth. I was told "well you got to enjoy the large room and that is what the charge is for." Ridiculous. It made me wish I would've stuck with my ES and saved $1600. UGH! I'm the biggest Carnival cheerleader ever, but the whole OS mess really got to me.
