La Rochelle, France

Is it possible to do La Rochelle on our own or would we need a guide? We love to walk and have done many ports on our own. Any info would be appreciated.

i too would like to know about this port of call stopping here september 2010.how far from the town will the ship dock?

The port is about 30 minutes by shuttle bus from the centre. If you just want to wander around on your own, it is a pretty town with plenty of shops and cafes.

Hi La Rochelle is a lovely town /port if you can try to get to isle de re(hope the spelling is correct) its a small island nearby which is supposed to be well worth while,we did a walk round and a tour in one of the towers,if we go again we will go to the island,on the down side the port staff go on strike if the wind is blowing the wrong way which is often :):):)
