Rare Tapi Posted September 28, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 28, 2009 Here's the scenario: 4 guests, driving to the port. 2 cabins: Husband and Wife Mother in law and 1 year old son Option A: Carnival Dream Cozumel, Roatan, Belize and Costa Maya 1 cat 6B for us, 1 cat 1A for the mother in law and son 8 hour drive Option B: Carnival Elation Jamaica, Cozumel, and Grand Cayman 2 cat 6B cabins 4 hour drive $900 less I know that the Dream is definitely a much newer and larger ship, but taking into account the drive, difference in price, and the group composition (traveling with mother in law and toddler), which one would you choose? Thanks for your input...! :)
mudpievelour Posted September 28, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 28, 2009 Sounds to me like you've already made your decision. $900 can go a long way on a cruise. Or on another cruise!:D
deepnite10 Posted September 28, 2009 #3 Share Posted September 28, 2009 id opt for B if i could leave the Mother-in-law at home..:p

mindymp Posted September 28, 2009 #5 Share Posted September 28, 2009 I've never been on Dream, but have been on Elation, and it was a fine ship. For $900 less, take the Elation.
jetskier Posted September 28, 2009 #6 Share Posted September 28, 2009 I would go with the shorter drive. (And then have the MIL babysit and use the $900 to take another cruise) Dave
navybaby1113 Posted September 28, 2009 #7 Share Posted September 28, 2009 I would definitely pick the Elation cruise.

Starfire_rules Posted September 28, 2009 #9 Share Posted September 28, 2009 I also agree, B: the Elation. With a 1 year old, the less time in the car the better. Also the price is soooo right. Have a great time!

thunderbird1 Posted September 28, 2009 #11 Share Posted September 28, 2009 id opt for B if i could leave the Mother-in-law at home..:p LOL--me too! Plus you'd only need the one stateroom--more savings for more cruises! But seriously, B sounds like a much better choice.
katiel53 Posted September 28, 2009 #12 Share Posted September 28, 2009 Does a 1A have 2 lower beds? I have never been in one, but I thought it had an upper and lower. If it does, would your mother-in-law sleep on the upper bunk? You child would be too young to be up there. I'd probably go with B even though I am sailing on the Dream. You can go on there when your child is older and would be able to enjoy the ship. Enjoy!

So MIL would take the lower bed (or upper) or she can alternate...:D

Charles 3 Posted September 29, 2009 #15 Share Posted September 29, 2009 I would choose the Elation as well....but then I really enjoy the Fantasy class ships.
Cruzman Posted September 29, 2009 #16 Share Posted September 29, 2009 I have dealt with the same dilemma. I was very excited about maybe cruising on the Dream, but after considering the 550 mile drive, hotel overnight, and $800 price difference, I will be booking the Elation! marshhawk Posted September 29, 2009 #17 Share Posted September 29, 2009 Choose "B", sounds like MIL will be the baby sitter on this trip anyway:rolleyes:, but next time maybe you can go w/o baby and MIL, sail happy.
PittsburghGirlee Posted September 29, 2009 #18 Share Posted September 29, 2009 I was also depating on the Dream for May 2010. The price for an 8G (aft balcony) was $1049.00 per pax. I opted to go on the Liberty (same itinenay - which we preferr) and get my first 9A wrap for $939.00 instead.:D:D This will be our first 9A wrap so it was a no brainer for us. We will get to the Dream in 2011 for sure. Just my 2 cents;)
