somogirl Posted September 29, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 29, 2009 We are wanting to hang out at a nice quiet beach and have access to chairs, drinks and lunch. barbados.org has a great map of the beaches but how does one make a choice?
martinchem Posted September 29, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 29, 2009 We grabbed a $10 cab ride (for two)to Malibu Beach (about 15-20 minutes) and the Malibu Rum Factory. We did the tour for about $10pp (about an hour), had some free shots got two coupons each for free drinks on their beach next door (included w/tour), enjoyed a couple hours there w/umbrellas and lounges on a first come basis (no charge), then a cab (they are parked at the beach entrance) back to the ship for another $10. An awesome time, great beach, bar & food available. $40 for our beach break, about 4 1/2 hours off the ship and that was plenty becuse the sun was hot. Aplmac Posted September 29, 2009 #3 Share Posted September 29, 2009 We are wanting to hang out at a nice quiet beach and have access to chairs, drinks and lunch. barbados.org has a great map of the beaches but how does one make a choice? Easiest way is to spend a little time going thru the many beach threads in this Barbados sectionand read what visitors and locals have to say, both good and bad. You'll soon get a feel for your Right Beach, but to be honest some folks are chasing an image in their heads that they saw in the Travel Section of their Sunday newspaper and won't settle for anything less. Try to avoid that -nowhere is absolutely perfect -not even Accra .
somogirl Posted September 29, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted September 29, 2009 Thanks for the info. Is it possible to do a 3 hr boat trip and then go sit on a beach, We are on the island from 9-6pm
sunseeker09 Posted October 2, 2009 #5 Share Posted October 2, 2009 ...but to be honest some folks are chasing an image in their heads that they saw in the Travel Section of their Sunday newspaper and won't settle for anything less.... ummm... or maybe chasing images of Crane, or Bottom Bay posted by YOU. I can't get those images out of my head, so why should I settle for anything less? ;)

Do Crane, and then make Btm.Bay a one hour side-trip,using a Crane taxi there and back. Not impossible -just don't forget the camera. So ya like this one, huh? . Brissle Posted October 2, 2009 #7 Share Posted October 2, 2009 The suggestion by Martinchem sounds perfect for what we want to do. We have a day off Cunard Queen Mary 2 on 25 November. Did you pre-arrange the rum factory tour or did you just get the taxi to take you there and you can walk in? Can you get a simple snack for lunch at the beach? Not looking for a big meal after all the cruise food...!!! Have been to Barbados a couple of times before and done the 4WD tour and had a day in Bridgetown, so this time we'd like some beach time. Thanks

Your photos have me dreaming of Barbados..... The plan is a (relatively)short top at Bottom Bay, ...since rough for swimming and no facilities, correct? ...then onto Crane, where we will either stay awhile, or go to Accra to laze awhile and swim. I thought we'd do Bottom first before people get there, and/or we get lazy and decide not to go later. Yes, I am bringing the DSLR and hope to get some half decent, (hopefully peopleless) photos! Even on a busy day, Bottom Bay has few people.Walk the edge of the cliff, up top, to get the shots I do. Down on the beach itself, it's kinda plain and ordinary. .................................................. Here's the beach at Hilton, shot just a few hrs. ago Wife took one look at this and said Let's go swimming there. We did...soaked for about 45 mins.! :) . awaldo Posted October 6, 2009 #11 Share Posted October 6, 2009 This system has worked best for me on every island, regardless of the type of beach I wanted to go to: get a taxi, tell the driver what kind of beach and amenities you want, and tell him to take you to the one he likes best that fits your idea. Never been steered wrong yet by the taxi drivers!
Sailor Gal Posted October 6, 2009 #12 Share Posted October 6, 2009 All this seems expensive for a few hours of beach time. Hard to sort through all the opinions but sure appreciate reading them. Been to Barbados several times and saw sites and swam with turtles. Would love to just spend an inexpensive time at a nice beach but for the life of me I can't tell which one that might be. By the time you add it all up - we can take a tour. Guess I'm fortunate to have such a dilema......I'll keep reading.
www Posted October 11, 2009 #13 Share Posted October 11, 2009 Do any of these beaches have a place right on the beach that you can take surfing lessons? My friend & I are just looking for like a 2 or 3 hour lesson with some free time to practice after.

Please look at http://www.barbadossurf.com/SurfingLessons.aspx You may not be surfing The Soupbowl after your three hour lesson, but you'll be much better than you were previously. merees17 Posted October 26, 2009 #15 Share Posted October 26, 2009 In Barbados, we took a 10 minute cab ride ($7.00 per person each way) and went to a lovely beach bar called Bar Kan'ei. If you are looking for a quiet, clean beach to relax for the day, this place is a must. They provided beach lounges and umbrellas if you wanted. The wonderful owner, Irena and her staff were attentive and took great care of our group of 10. The beer was ice cold and the food great. Try the flying fish fingers! You can check it out at the site below. http://www.life-n-styles-barbados.com/bar-kanei.html

Aplmac Posted November 15, 2009 #18 Share Posted November 15, 2009 Okay...I finally got around to getting some shots of Bar Kanei down at the quiet Eastern end of Rockley Beach. If you can 'stitch' these together in your mind they're pretty much a panorama.. ..Left.. ..Middle... ..and Right .

Aplmac Posted November 15, 2009 #21 Share Posted November 15, 2009 Great pics! Thanks! You just helped make our decision! Glad to help! It was quiet (empty) when I breezed thru there, a little before mid-day so you shouldn't have a problem with them finding a place for you. As has been mentioned already I think they'll give you a free chair/umbrella, once you're having lunch there so if you need a quiet day on one of our better beaches -not far from the ship- this may be a good bet, even if the overall cost is (I'm told) a bit on the pricey side. Give it a shot! .
mr middy Posted November 16, 2009 #22 Share Posted November 16, 2009 As far as Malibu beach and rum factory tour, do you think its possible to tour the Mt Gay visitors center as well (in addition to doing the other two). Thanks.
