charging for cupcakes on Oasis?

Recommended Posts

this is aplace where we all can voice or thoughts with no critisism

Sometimes members over react, but pointing out when people start posts complaining about something that all the facts are not in on yet is warranted.

Since no one on here knows for sure if they are planning to charge for the $2.99 for a 1/2 dozen grocery store cupcakes or $8.00 each gourmet cupcakes it is a little premature to start the complaining.

Wouldn't you agree?

Cupcakes have become a very big business. Couples are choosing to use cupcakes at their weddings instead of the traditional wedding cake. We just had some at work not too long ago for a celebration and I had a carrot cupcake with cream cheese icing that melted in your mouth. OMG, I was salivating for more but didn't want to appear greedy. They easily go for $3.50 up on land so I can see why RCI might charge for them. Whether they choose to or not, I'll be first in line to get one!

I for one like to look at the cupcakes like Teamsterlady has posted, but I would rather they be offered as a surcharge rather than as part of my cruise fare.

It's hard to phrase this correctly, but also the person, especially kids, who will get one, take a bite and toss it, little later get another one and take a bite and toss it. Not that there is no food wasted on a cruise ship, or land based buffets but this is a specialty item that on its own has value.

To the poster and everyone else not getting the point:

Think about what you are saying...

It doesn't make sense.

So if Royal Caribbean not decided to have a specialty cup-cake for a fee on board their latest ship that would have been better?

Where do you lose out on this ADDITION?

Do you get such a cup-cake or used to get it for free on another ship?

I don't think so....

1. You didn’t used to have it.

2. They don’t force you to buy it.

3. They make it available as an addition to those interested...

And you complain?

There are more INCLUDED items and experiences on board 'Oasis of the Seas' than ever before! And yet... some people are too narrow-minded to notice that and rather focus on a little thing that they apparently HAVE to pay for now...

My goodness!

HOORAY!!!! Glad to see somebody else "gets it"!! It's NOT about what is extra charge, it's about what is included. The extra charge items simply provide more choice!

Twitter just sent me the photo, which I see was already posted above.

I like sweets as much as anyone (no, probably more than anyone), but I wouldn't pay $5 for one of those. Not if I still had the alternative of free goodies at the Cafe Promenade, or whatever the Oasis equivalent is, or the Windjammer.

I think peoples' greatest concern when they see all these extra charge eateries, is that they will take away/put less care into the non-charge restaurants. When you see, what is it, five?, extra-charge restaurants on Oasis, people fear that the main dining room food will become yet more generic/bland. One shouldn't care about the extra cost options, as long as it doesn't diminish what one's getting included in their pay-own-price cruise. That remains to be seen.

And a Hallelujah! If you start out every day being grateful for something you will definitely be ahead of the game. I am grateful that I can sail on this ship, with my family, and have so many experiences. That I can choose (love choices) to experience other things that may not interest some is a bonus!

Correct, a nice and positive approach, I am with you, how lucky we all are just to be able to worry about the extras we might encounter on our cruise.

I support a Childrens orphanage in Thailand, and the price we pay for one day on a ship will keep a child fed, clothed, housed and educated for 3 months, and yet some worry about the price of cupcake that nobody forces them to buy anyway. Its time to wake up and smell the coffee that many others can not afford either.

It is unbelievable that you are planning your complaints before you have even taken your cruise. What is wrong with you, surely you can accept that such extras should be charged for. Cruise lines already have to cater for various dining options, and a meal will be ready in both the MDR and WJ. so who can blame them for charging extra as you may stuff your face with cupcakes and then not even go to MDR or WJ. They can easily include everything, and charge you an extra $100 for your cruise, and then you would complain that you are paying extra for someone that wants free cupcakes. No pleasing some people.

I guess when I was on the Carnival Liberty last year I should have complained because they were charging for a piece of cake at their bakery area. No one should have to pay for a piece of cake. No matter how big or special it is. After all I paid for that cruise.

Bring it on! Those look so yummy. I'll pay. All food items have zero fat and zero calories while on vacation...It's a fact ;):)

:D

MMMM they look delicious!!!! I'm ready to eat some of those cupcakes too.

Some of the same folks saying they would never pay for a well-decorated, large specialty cupcake probably wouldn't hesitate to pay even more for a glass of wine or hard liquor or cigarettes or even drop ten times that much in the casino in less time than it takes to eat a cupcake.

Each to his own when it comes to spending money, I say.

As was pointed out earlier, they aren't your grocery store cupcakes. So, please post on here where we can all get similar ones for pennies. Do you feel nickel and dimed when you pay for a glass of wine? Or you go to one of the shops on board and they insist you pay for the tshirt and other souveniers you want to take home with you? Not everything on any cruise ship is free. As long as there have been shops on board there have been opportunities for you to spend additional money.

At least you get it.

Yeah, right.

No one is saying you should get free merchandise. Food should be included. Even me the anti extra charge for food person can handle a few pay restaurants like chops and portafinos.

But cupcakes, sea food shacks, $20 buffets, $15 steaks, $4 room service, $5 burgers, this is over the top.

They should come out with a plan where you pay like $500 more and all food is included where you get a different colored room key or something

$500 more for food ... you've got to be kidding! There are other cruiselines for that, and you get a lot more than "free" food for the price.

It is your choice to pay extra for some food, as much as you want. No one is forcing you to pay for cupcakes, or steaks. There are plenty of yummy desserts available at no extra cost, and plenty of good food in the MDR & Windjammer.

No BRAD people like YOU and AUNTIE will complain ABOUT ANYTHING!

YOU AND HER are the ones who "do not get it" and NEVER WILL!

You want all the "extras" for free as part of the package you pay.

They call that "all inclusive" Sandals and other like resorts specialize in that kind of vacation. Why don't you price their 7 day vacation out and see the difference! See what your RCCL cruise would cost as an "all inclusive." Boy would the 2 of you complain about that too.

Maybe THEN you and AUNTIE, who I invite to do the same will "get it", but I do highly doubt it. And your and her complaints about the next for fee item will ensue! Ad infinitum, ad nauseum.

And that's MY OPINION.

If they ever do start that five hundred buck charge you can pay for mine and the missus! Unreal!

And aren't you STILL paying an extra charge for food????????

Doesn't this go against your grain? Isn't this out of your "tolerance zone?"
