What happened to RC price guarantee?

I was so excited to read on this forum about RC offering a best price guarantee. Sold me on trying them over another Carnival cruise.

Monday I went online to check prices and saw that my cabin had dropped $50 pp. I called RC and spoke to a really nice man named Ralph. He asked me what price I had found and I told him. He said that he saw the same price and put me on hold. After several minutes he came back on the line and said everything was taken care of and that my reservation would reflect the new price. Today I got my new receipt and when I opened it I noticed that even though my room price dropped by $50 pp I now had a new $50pp charge that does not show up on my original receipt.

I feel cheated. If they did not plan on actually giving a discount why not just say so. Why not say something when I called. I have been telling my friends what a great deal they were for offering this and now I find out that it was a scam. I hope the rest of the cruise does not continue with this type of customer service.

Are you sure it is not OBC? I was a little confused when I saw it as a charge but when they explained it, it was OBC. the price of my cruise remained the same with the charge and if you look closely it should say OBC. My cruise dropped twice, i called both times and was given OBC. $120 the first drop and then $128 on the second price drop. The total charge was $248.00, but the price of the cruise stayed the same. The charge is OBC. Call them and they should take care of it. I was really surprised how easy it was.:D

Thank you for your response. After looking at the codes on the receipt it does say OBPP-OBC PRC PRT.

I think that means OBC but will have to wait till they open in the morning to find out. The way it shows up on the receipt is very confusing, why show it as a charge?

Yes --- they give the price drop as onboard credit. You can use it for tips (if you haven't selected my time dining, in which case the tips are charged before you sail), drinks, in the shops, for excursions you book on the ship, and can get cash from the casino.

I have never had a problem getting a price drop or on OBC. I book through a TA, and she is always right on top of RCCL to stick with the lowest price. Double check that you were given an OBC, and if you still are having problems, call back and demand to talk to someone higher up!

The OBC is because you are beyond final payment. Before final payment, they would have credited the cruise price.

Why is it that everyone believes that a price drop is given as an on board credit. Every price drop I have received has always be credited back to my card even after final payment. Does it depend on the agent, on how the credit is applied, or is it based on your past actions on how you want the credit applied. BTW I prefer to have it credited back to my card.

It is probably in RCI'S best interest to have it applied as a on board credit. Your just prepaying for a service on the ship that way, be it a drink, tips ect.

If RCI refunds it back to you they take the risk that you will not purchase as much on the ship thus that revenue is lost forever to them. If you see it on your account your more likely to spend it to take advantage of the credit before leaving the ship which is just a mind game because you have already prepaid for the tip, trinket or tips.

Because that is RCI's new policy. If the price drop is after final payment due date, then it goes to OBC.

But if I understand it correctly, this OBC is refunded if not used up while on the cruise whereas other kinds of OBC, like for stock holder benefits, and not refunded. Am I right about that?

I'm a little unclear on that part of it, but based on my limited understanding of it, I believe you are correct.

Thanks for letting me know. I did not know this. That kinda Stinks. I went to the site and read the Policy.

From RCI Site

Highlights:

• No forms to fill out

• Book anytime and know you are protected up until 72 hours prior to departure

- Outside of final payment - Upgrade options, Onboard Credit, or price reduction (refund if applicable)

- Inside final payment - Upgrade options or Onboard Credit

That is the code for the price protection OBC. I just received one myself (over $500!). Anything not used on this particular OBC is refundable at the end of the cruise. Your cruise fare would drop byt $50 but then they add in this OBC "charge" but you should just consider it spending money while on board.

The code you have posted OBPP-OBC PRC PRT with the amount shown is the price reduction that you received.

It looks like it is added in when you see it in the total column on your invoice, but if you add up all the figures, you will find that it is not.

It is shown as a charge because the money still belongs to RCI (they did not issued a credit to your credit card). Once on board, they will give it back to you and you can either spend it (like they hope you will) or you can withdraw it against your SeaPass account.

I had 15.00 of OBC from stockholder benefit remaining on my last cruise. It was refunded onto the credit card that I used for the original booking. Had I know, I would have had a couple of more drinks!

EXACTLY! Just what they want you to do.Have another drink.

I noticed lower prices on RCCL website for our sailing and they say for new bookings only .It wasn't a Tuesday special either.

I phoned my travel agent and she said she checked and it was for new bookings only.

What a shame !!

I guess it's RCCL way of getting around their guaranteed prices incase they lower it later.

We sail next week. The price dropped after we made our final payment and they credited our credit card. Noticed that they also deducted points from our credit card for the difference as well.

Losing points is not unusual as this will happen when you have a credit identified as being from RCI. You get double points when you have a debit and you lose double points with a credit.

Can't understand why they would issued you a credit on your card instead of an OBC since your price reduction happend after final payment. Another good example of consistency among the reps.
