Cabin help Ecstasy

Hi everyone- newbie here- never cruised and hubby never cruised. We did decide to cruise on the Carnival Ecstasy on April 12th ( thanks everyone for input on the spring breaks and Easter) but now hubby and I are trying to figure out the balcony cabin situation. We know we want to get a guaranteed # balcony cabin- but hubby wants one all the way in the back and I was thinking more in the middle b/c it's closer to everything.

Is there really a big difference bing in the back as opposed to the middle? He wants cabin 240 ( on the deck 7)and I have no clue. Can someone please give me their opionions?Have you stayed in the back and/or middle and do you feel it rock more in either place?

This will be our 2nd honeymoon and I am trying to book via Carnival myself. thanks:)

Congratulations on electing to book a cruise! Y'all will love it!!

Now, help me out here a bit... cabin 240 is an inside cabin on deck 2, the Main Deck, not a balcony cabin.

Any cabin in the aft end of the ship will experience more motion than midships but the only midships balcony cabins are on the Empress Deck, deck 4.

Can you take a look at the deck plan and see which cabin you and he are interested in???

yes sorry it's E240 on deck 7.

so it's better to be in the middle than the back, yes?

i am a bit hesitant about calling carnival with questions as i am afraid of being talked into something since i have no clue about cruises. i know this forum has been a big help with us deciding on taking a cruise and which ports of calls we wanted to go to and what activities we want to partake in. now it's down to the cabin choice-lol.:)

Hey Mach, I know that there was a lot of work done while in dry dock but when I got off the Ecstasy before it left for the refurb I left the Empress on deck 7! But I had Mari with me so there is no telling where I was going each evening:):D

There is more motion towards the back, so if that is a concern I would look into the mid-ship balconies. There are regular balcony rooms mid-ship on main and empress and cat 12 suits on upper midship.

We're trying out one of the aft balconies in Februrary and I can't wait! A little motion just reminds me I'm at sea ;)

I don't know what view-lol. With a balcony I was just hoping to see the ocean and sky so if I get a bit claustrophobic I can go out on the balcony or just open the door while still in the room.I haven't been on any boat in over 10 years so unsure if I will be effected by the boat moving. I guess I am just a bundle of nerves doing something I never have done before and I am completely in charge of something other than vacations to Disney-lol!.

You'll have a WONDERFUL time, and you will want to book another right away. Take some Meclazine with you just in case you are bothered by the motion. If you forget there are usually free samples of frequently needed over the counter medications outside the infirmary. You probably won't need it though. It is more for peace of mind that you have something if you should need it. :)

We had a mid ship balcony on Conquest in September and the view was very nice. The seas were very calm and we could see flying fish, dolphins, and other interesting critters from our balcony. The only problem with that location was that on the Conquest the balconies run the entire length of the ship, and cigarette smoke tended to drift down from people who were smoking upwind. The new balconies on Ecstasy are in smaller sections, so that probably wouldn't be such a problem.

A rear balcony would have a nice view too. Either would be great, in my opinion. Relax, you are going to enjoy this!

I wanted to respond to your post because I was in the exact same situation as you!! Okay...my DH wanted to upgrade to a balcony from an OV that I had booked on the Ecstasy for 12/3. I called Carnival and got a PVP to speak with...he was wonderful!!:D I will pass his advise on to you as I am sure it will help! If you think you could get sea sick you will want to be mid ship. If you are on the back of the ship you will feel more and there is a possibilty of more vibration back there from the engines. Also, the higher the deck the more the ship will move in rough seas. That being said we chose a mid ship balcony on the Main level (deck 5). Another piece of advise that I found very helpful for us newbies....get a room with even numbers. You will most likely be on the port side when in port and will be able to see the port or the villages (depending on where you go). He said it is an 80% chance you will see that view while in port. His words were "why would you want to keep looking at the ocean when you could see the land in another country. You will see the sea for the rest of your trip." I thought that was helpful and of course we took an even number cabin for that view. :D

I hope I have helped you! I know this can be stressful, but you have to admit it is fun at the same time. The people at Carnival are very helpful and I did not find the PVP pushy at all. He answered all the questions I had for him with a smile in his voice.:)

This might help...

With an Aft Balcony, you will get this view:

MargiesLovenLearningPlacephotos6-97.jpg

You'll see the wake as the boat moves flowing out behind you.

There might be a little more movement and vibration there.

Some people like this as the gentle vibration feels like a ship and rocks them to sleep.

It will be really convenient if a major part of your activities will involve the Serenity Deck (aft), the Buffet (aft), and Karaoke (aft).

With a Midship Balcony, you will get this view:

CruiseRockmetosleep.jpg

You'll see more straight out to the side of the ocean.

There will be less vibration there.

It will be convenient if a major part of your activities will involve the Casino, the Showroom, or the Piano Bar.

Both are good for different reasons. I wouldn't over worry though about seasickness if that is the nervous concern here.

Just get some Bonine, and take it the day before you sail.

Always better to just be preventative, and never have a problem.

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for posting those. I think I am in agreement I would like the back of the ship as my husband suggested- thank you so much- the pics put things into perspective for me:)

And I am booking now-so anyone who wanted the E240 room on April 12th is outta luck;)

. Thanks again everyone for your help!

LOL!:D

You are both welcome!

It's so funny, and why whenever I post info I present not just my opinions - by why each one has advantages.

You each looked at that info and pictures, and decided that different choices were right for each of you!

Have fun! Ecstasy is a great ship. Not too big, not too small. Just right.;)

yes thanks i actually got to pick my cabin- it cost a bit more ( early saver was $499, but picking the room we wanted was $549) , but i got to choose - again another newbie misunderstanding in the beginning-but hoping the price goes down and we can get obc if it does happen as i have been reading about. but if not- no biggie-think the balcony with a view for me is just worth it.

thanks bunches :)

Don't forget to take advantage of continental breakfast and coffee out there in the morning...

An adult beverage and some snacks from room service in the afternoon or late at night!

Those are great balcony moments right there!:D
