Transportation from San Jose to port?

Has anyone traveled from San Jose to either Puerto Caldera or Puerto Limon? We start our cruise in one and end in the other. I would prefer not to take a bus, we would prefer either private car or limo service.

i cant tell you about rental cars, but i can tell you what it was like to take the local bus.....we took one from Limon to a national park about 30 miles away.....its wasnt all that bad.....the bus was in nice enough shape....we had very few stops along the way, so we got there fairly fast......it was mostly all locals on the bus, as you might imagine.....but no one bothered us, everyone was friendly enough........and of course the best part was the price.....75 cents:)...........i know they also run a bus from san jose to limon....i think i saw where its like over a 2 hour ride.......if it was me, id take the bus......but ive always enjoyed the sights and sounds of public transportation:)

Thanks for the info. I'll be schlepping a husband, two teenagers, and assorted baggage, so I don't think we can do the bus on this one!:o
