Mexican Riviera - Oct. 17, 2009: Question from Princess Pax...

We were on the Princess that was diverted from Mexico to California coastal ports.

I understand that Royal Caribbean is one of the ships that went forward to Mexico, despite Hurricane Rick. the others being NCL, Carnival and Celebrity.

Is there anyone on the boards that actually made that cruise? and did you make all or some of the Mexican ports? How did the weather affect the ship?

thanks

I believe this past week the Mariner was chartered by a private group. This could account for why they went where they did etc (but is only my speculation).

Yes, I was on the Mariner cruise Oct 18th to 25. Full ship charter by Atlantis Events. At the life boat drill Captain Johnny informed us we would sail directly to Puerto Vallarta instead of Cabo and wait out of the storm. Monday's weather was warm and sunny, Tuesday....sailing off Cabo and very windy 75MPH....you could barely go out on deck. Everyone just stayed inside. Wednesday...rained all day long in PV. Informed by the captain Mazaltan's port is closed so we overnighted it in PV until 1PM the next day. Evening weather in PV was nice so many people partied all night at the club's in PV. Thursday in PV....sunny and beautiful. Friday in Cabo...sunny and hot and Saturday at sea.. clear, cool, breezy and sunny. Other then Tuesday and Wednesday the weather was pretty decent. We only had one rough night where the ship really did rock a lot.
