mbtous Posted November 1, 2009 #1 Share Posted November 1, 2009 Hello... I hope someone can help. I was looking at the 'Route of the Ancient Traders' cruise ... 40 days ..Istanbul to Singapore. It looks like it has a fabulous intinerary. I can't go this year...Nov. 2009. Was hoping to book for 2010... but... I don't see it listed anywhere. Does anyone know... is it a one time only cruise ? I will be sooo disappointed if it is.
Paulchili Posted November 1, 2009 #2 Share Posted November 1, 2009 Unfortunately your timing is poor. After doing this itinerary each year for the past 3 or 4 years, they will do a new itinerary from Istanbul to Cape Town in 2010. It is also a very exciting itinerary and much welcomed by O cruisers, who have been waiting for new itineraries after the "same old/same old" cruises year after year. The second segment from Cape Town to Singapore covers some of the ports on the old Istanbul to Singapore trip with many new additions.
Paulchili Posted November 1, 2009 #3 Share Posted November 1, 2009 Alternatively, you can look at the Nautica from Hong Kong to Athens in March/April 2011 - essentiailly a reverse of what you were looking for (more or less). It is 2 segments totaling 45 days.

I had the same reaction a month ago. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=21229966&highlight=#post21229966 Oceania was the only cruise line that covered that itinerary at that time of year. There are a few which were similar, but not as good. I'm still hoping that the cruise will be re-introduced by Marina.
plimsol Posted November 1, 2009 #5 Share Posted November 1, 2009 We are doing this year's 40 day IST to SIN. We also have booked next year's b2b IST Capetown and Capetown to SIN. In 2005, we did ATH to SIN and loved it. We will have the same ports as then but since this cruise is longer, several new ports have been added. Check out Nautica's Roll Call and there are already threads started for each leg of next year's leg journey. The reviews I read of those who did the reverse itinerary in the spring, remarked about the hot, hot weather. When we did it in November 2005, we found it hot where it should be hot but not depressing and uncomfortable. But that is the opinions of the writers. For me... it's too bad they didn't change the Connoisseur's Collection 35 Day cruise....that cruise has been around for a long time. I would have liked the opportunity (and times allowed) to see Israel ... along with Jordan and Egypyt ... and also the 3 days in Dubai. Well... maybe they will bring the route back again someday. ALSO... WAS THIS A REPOSITIONING CRUISE, by chance ? From the spring and fall dates it seems like one. Thanks for the responses. BTW... WHERE CAN I FIND THE REVIEWS FROM THESE CRUISES ? Paulchili Posted November 2, 2009 #7 Share Posted November 2, 2009 mbtous, Yes, these were repositioning cruises for the Nautica from the Med to Asia. You will find that the Nautica cruise from Hong Kong to Athens in March/April 2011 is virtually the same as the one that you are interested in, but in the reverse. It too is a repositioning cruise from Asia back to the Med. As these were done on Nautica, you can find the reviews under reviews for Nautica in the review section of CC (if there were any done from these cruises). http://www.cruisecritic.com/memberreviews/getreviews.cfm?action=ship&ShipID=

You left out the fact that it also stopped at Mumbai with the option to take an overland tour to Agra and the Taj Mahal. After ending at Singapore, the next two legs were to Sidney and Auckland. As I mentioned in my previous post, this itinerary was unique among all the cruise lines.

Just a thought..... As the 2011 cruise stops in Cochin before Mumbai (2 days later), it is quite possible that this cruise will also offer an overland trip to to Agra. Much more uniquely, however, this cruise makes a 3 day stop in Myanmar and you have to look very long and hard to find another cruise ship visiting Myanmar (everybody goes to Istanbul & Kusadasi). The rest of the cruise is almost identical.
