If you look at this position data you will notice some Oasis characteristics as well.

OASIS OF THE SEAS (from C6XS7) - info

2009-11-03 01:21:24z

22 MPH 231°

AIS: length 360m width 60m draught 9.4m

The thing that is impressive for me is that its draft is only 9.4 m or 30.8 feet.

228,000 tons and only 30+ feet in the water. A Freedom class ship draws almost as much.

Dimensions in feet: 1,181.1 long and 196.85 feet wide. That is big!

You will notice the time of last update was 1:21z or gmt so right now Oasis is a long way from that location.

Yea....that must have been the last position reported....she hasn't been showing up "live" on any tracking for some time now:confused:

Looks like she is in for a rough crossing:

Love to see how she manages the heavy seas.

Yep....she is some some pretty rough stuff right about now:eek:

Here is another map:

I found this link on facebook. It gives the position of Oasis in almost realtime. I think the page refreshes itself every minute or so. I also think it is using the maritime call id of Oasis to track its location.

Enjoy. I know I am. :)

As far as I know, the system is based on VHF and only provides near shore live tracking.

You do understand that for these ships the "weight" is actually closer to a measure of enclosed volume than it is a measure of actual weight. Considering how much wider it is, it shouldn't be expected to have much more draft.

If you want an idea of how large the ship is, then take a gander at this photo taken Jan. 2013 of the Oasis Of The Seas docked beside the Celebrity Constellation (our ship).

"Connie" isn't small, but sure looks it compared to the Oasis.

We wondered what it was that had blocked out the sun on the starboard side of our ship. :D

Happy sailing!

:)
