Visit to Atlantis without a day pass???

I am a bit confused by some of the many threads I have read on the Atlantis and hope someone can clarify for me if I would be able to take a cab to the resort and just walk around and see the grounds, shops, lobby, casino, etc. without having to purchase a day pass? I was there just before they turned the resort into the Atlantis, when Merv Griffin owned it, and was able to walk around, see the sights, walk out to the beach, and have a drink at one of the lounges, etc. Can anyone confirm what parts of the property a visitor will have access too? I will only be in port for a few hours, so it would not be worth paying for a day pass.

You can walk around freely in the Marina Village and the hotel. You cannot walk around the grounds as you will be stopped if you try to head out to the pools, beach, outdoor marine pools. You can walk anywhere inside the hotel including lobbies, casino, shops.

We were also considering just walking around Atlantis. Is it worth it if we can ony walk around shops and the casino and hotel? Maybe it would be worth purchasing the limited pass. Doesn't allow us access to the pools but it does include lunch. We have never been to Nassau so we were trying not to tie the entire day up with one location?

Any opinions???:)

I toured without purchasing anything in 2006. I saw enough that I don't ever need to return.

Take the water taxi over to Atlantis for $3.00. You have about a 10 minute walk through some shops and resturants to get to Atlantis. Once inside you can see the huge aquarium and walk around the hotel and casino. You can gamble, drink and eat. There are some nice photo ops inside the hotel. Everything in the hotel is expensive as is everything in Nassau. To get out to the beach area you have to buy a pass. It's worth doing it once. :)

If you've every seen a casino and a hotel lobby, then you won't be missing anything. There's some nice gilhuly glass sculptures in the casino, but that's about it.

The small part of the aquarium that you can view is interesting, little kids will like it.

BTW.. kids aren't allowed in the casino.

Atlantis does have a snorkeling lagoon and you can snorkel off the beach, but you must have access to those areas to do that. The snorkeling does not cost extra. www.stuartcove.com is a snorkel excursion you might be interested in and would be better than just beach snorkeling.

If the pass does include lunch, it might be worth more than you think. The least expensive item that I could find to snack on was a $7.00 slice of pizza. It was a large slice, but still ..........

We have been in Nassau many times, and what we did the last time was got off the ship and took the water taxi across the Harbour ($3), nice tour as well. Then we walk up through paradise island to the Atlantis marina, admired the yatchs there, and walked around inside (for free). We saw the aqauarium (near the restaurant) that was fabulous to see, the casino (played at bit there and had some free drinks) and saw a few opportunities to get outside on a balcony to see the pool areas. Then we walked all the way to the end of the hotel and out the door, and around the RIU hotel (now being reno'd) to the public beach (again free). After our time at the beach, we took a taxi from the beach back to the boat (for $4 pp), it was faster and air conditioned, a nice feature after a hot day at the beach. We were back at the boat by 1:30, had lunch and got off again to shop, back on again by 4.

We got everything in that we wanted with the cost of the water taxi of $3 and a taxi at $4 pp, and had a great day!

Here is a RCCL excursion in Nassau...

NS48 - Nassau & Paradise Island Tour

PRICE: ADULT: 35.00 / CHILD: 26.00 USD

DURATION: 2 Hours Approx.

If you've never been to colorful Nassau before, you're in for a charming treat. This tour will take you along Bay Street, the

heart of Nassau's shopping district, to the Queen's Staircase. Built in the days of England's Queen Victoria, the stair case

consists of over 65 steps hewn out of solid coral rock. Climb the stairs to the Water Tower where, for a small fee, you can take

the elevator to the observation point, 216 feet above sea level for a panoramic view of Nassau. Fort Fincastle is your next stop.

Built in 1793, the structure was designed in the shape of a paddle wheel steamer. Next, you will have an exterior visit of Fort

Charlotte. Built in the Napoleonic era to defend the island against marauding pirates, Fort Charlotte offers you a historic peek

into the past. Before returning to the ship, there will be a brief photo stop at the famous Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island.

Note: Transportation used are mini vans.

My question is how does this compare to ANGEL77's trip to Atlantis via water taxi ???

If I decided to go the water taxi mini tour (way cheaper for 2) would I really be missing any thing of importance? Maybe I could visit Staircase on my own later after relaxing lunch back on ship??? Suggestions ? Thanks

Angel I absolutely love your mini version....

Here is the official RC version.

Will I really miss anything of importance?

Also is the walk to Atlantis steep for 60 year olds ?

I'm also confused on the whole Atlantis thing. We are going on our first cruise in 25 days! :D We are stopping in Nassau and I am researching the Atlantis excursions (we are on Carnival Sensation). Figure I've gotta go see it since it's our first time there and the kids will love it.

We want to hang on the beach and snorkel in the lagoon, use the pools and see the aquarium. The girls don't do water slides. But looking at the excursions, I dont know if the beach pass for the day covers all that I want. And the only one that covers the Aquadventure that I can find has a dolphin swim (been there done that).

Does anyone know what daypass excursion to take to get what we want? Or should I try to find something through Atlantis itself?

Thanks for the information! I can't wait!

The beach pass ($65_ gives you access to the BEACH only. and only the west (main) beach. Not the snorkeling lagoons and not any of the other areas of the property or the pools.

If you want to use the lagoons, pools etc.. you must buy the aquapark pass. ($110 from Atlantis/ $80 for kids)

Someone must know?

Is the 'underwater tunnel" I see in advertisements in the public part of the Atlantis Dig?

If I didnot want to use the beach or the water park what would there be to do at Atlantis for a 60 year old couple?

Thanks.

The Underwater tunnels are NOT open to the public. The pass for the DIGS and tunnels (Predator Lagoons).. is $35 for adults.

There is a small part of the aquarium viewable from the lobby at the Great Hall of Waters. After 6pm.. you can also walk thru the DIGs unescorted, for free. The security guards are gone for the nite.

Thanks scubagirl! Should I contact Atlantis myself? The only options for the excursions through Carnival that include the aquapark pass (therefore the pools and lagoon) that are showing on their website include a dolphin or sea lion swim. Done that elsewhere. I understand that Atlantis limits these passes. Do you think I'll have better luck through Atlantis itself? We will be there on the week between Christmas and New Years.

Thanks!

I may decide to do the DIGS day pass once I get to Atlantis. Since I am mid-week at the end of January I doubt if pass availabilty will be limited? Also only one other ship in port. I went to what I thought was the Atlantis website and could find no mention of cruise ship day passes. Are these obtained at Atlantis or on board ship? Maybe at a booth in port? I really wanted to delay my DIGS decision to see if the public areas were enough to say I had been to Atlantis... but I must say the DIGS photos online were impressive! Are there any discounts thru groups like AARP or AAA? American Express? How much time should I leave to see DIGS?

Of course, I usually discover the 'discounts' AFTER I get home!

BTW, since DIGS is usually always in caps does it stand for something?

Also, FYI, unless they are done with construction and work in the lagoon bar and the surrounding area, you can't walk all the way through the tunnel. We stayed at Atlantis for 5 days the end of Oct and the tunnel near the bar was completely blocked off. We only went in one time because it wasn't worth it and we've been through it before in '05. We must have walked through the Dig at least 8 times while we were there this last trip.

  • 7 months later...
same question, i'd also like to know is it worth it as a first timer to pay 35 pp

It would depend on whether or not you have access to a good aquarium at home. As nice as atlantis is.. it's limited to caribbean fish.. and is more pricey that the GREAT aquariums back home.

It's a great way to spend a rainy day, but to me.. I wouldn't spend a day in the bahamas in a dark tunnel.

It depends on your families travel experience.
