Hi!

This will be our first cruise and I honestly don't know where to even begin. We are planning on flying into Miami the day before our cruise departs. Now...here's where I'm lost. Should we get a taxi, shuttle, rent a car??? Then how do we get from the hotel to the port and then back to the airport at the end. Any help would be greatly appreciated!.....

You can pick up the shuttle to take you to your hotel then grab a cab from the hotel to the port. It just depends on how much time/money you want to spend. It's real easy and a bit more expensive to grab a cab to get some where quicker depending on where you plan to stay. Some people stay at the airport area the night before the cruise and the hotels have a free shuttle to the port. Cruisers special. There's a ton of choices.

Cabs are VERY plentiful. From airport to port is $24....if your hotel is somewhere near the port, the fare should be close to that. From a near the port hotel to port is about $8-10...

Do you know what hotel you're in yet? You need to know what you're close to, so you'll know if you can walk to dinner or if you will need transportation. Give us the hotel name, and we can point you in the right direction!

Same with returning to the airport after the cruise...there will be a line of cabs just waiting.....

In Miami, cabs are the way to go...no waiting for a bus to fill...you go at your own schedule.

There are several ways to get from the airport to your hotel.

Depending on whether you book the hotel independently or through the cruise line, either the cruise line will have a shuttle to the hotel (which you'd pay extra for)..and then to the pport the next day,

or the hotel will have a shuttle. Sometimes these are free, or at a nominal cost.

Or you can do it quickly and efficiently (if more expensively) and simply catch a cab.

At the end of the cruse -- the cruise line may have a shuttle service, or you catch a cab. This really isn't complicated..just depends on how much money you want to spend.

Unless trying to budget better - taxi is usually the easiest route. There will be taxis lined up at the airport to take you to your hotel (know you exact hotel name and street, can't just say 'Hyatt' anymore). On checkout morning, ask the bellman to hail a cab, chances are they are waiting just around the corner. And finally to return, there again is a line of taxi's waiting at the pier to get you back to airport.

Shuttles are offered by some hotels, so ask about that when slecting one. But sometimes they can require a short wait or not be at the time you wish to get going. You usually need to be flexible when it comes to the shuttle offerings.
