Foxhill Posted November 14, 2009 #1 Share Posted November 14, 2009 Will the taxi cabs in Vancouver accept U.S. Dollars in payment of a fare? We only need a taxi from the AMTRAK station to Ballantyne Pier which I understand runs around $12.00 to $15.00. I am hoping the taxi will accept our USD and we don't have to get Canadian for such a small expense.
Urban trekker Posted November 15, 2009 #2 Share Posted November 15, 2009 Yes most taxis will accept $US but don't expect any exchange as the difference between the two currencies is only around 5 - 7 %. Hope this helps Cheers Dennis
Langley Cruisers Posted November 15, 2009 #3 Share Posted November 15, 2009 Yes, not to mention change will (obviously) be given in Canadian dollars. If you don't want to break a large bill and get Canadian change, I'd suggest having some small U.S. bills handy.

The taxi will accept US$ (although any change will be in Cdn $), or major (VISA/MC) credit cards. The only caveat I have, most Vancouver taxis are small (Toyota Prius/Toyota Corolla are the most popular). If you have 4 people + luggage, you're going to have to wait a couple of minutes for a minivan cab, or take two taxis.
Foxhill Posted November 15, 2009 Author #5 Share Posted November 15, 2009 scottbee: There will be three of us, two adults and a 14 year old girl. However, my husband is 6'6" tall I don't think he would be too happy stuffed into a very small car. We will probably have to wait for a mini van....hopefully not too long. I will come prepared with small bills so we don't get too much Canadian change back.

Couple of things; 1) Don't assume it will be at Ballantyne; check the port of Vancouver's cruise calendar at http://www.portmetrovancouver.com/about/cruiseandtourism/cruiselineschedules.aspx These things tend to change year to year. 2) You'll be fine, even at 6'6" in a Prius, just let him have the front passenger seat; even if it's a bit squished, it's only 2 miles.
