Four Adults in a Balcony??

My mom, dad, brother and sil are booked in a balcony cabin on the Pride of America for a 7 night cruise. Mom is very concerned that there will not be enough room. Can you give me an idea of what she can expect. Currently, she and dad are on the carnival Inspiration in a cabin that is 185sq.ft. and she thinks that is small. Thanks!!

The balcony cabin will probably have slightly less square footage, as NCL cabins are generally smaller than Carnival. Sorry, but that is the reality!

four adults will be VERY tight in a balconly cabin. I am adult and my mom and I shared and it was pretty tight. (remember, only one bathroom)

My suggestion would be to book a balcony and then an inside cabin directly across from it. That's what we did for my family. It gave us more room for sleeping and an additional bathroom.

NCL will issue additional keys to the balcony room so everyone can enjoy the balcony and sleep somewhere else.

Only people that have sailed before can understand what it is like. Keep in mind that some people do this for a week and are fine. Others have a problem with just one night.

One bathroom. One set of lights. (everybody gets up and goes to bed at the same time). One TV. Storage will be a problem, but nothing like everyone being very close for this long of a period.

If your Mom is already on a ship and says it will not work, I would go with her. Either get the balcony and inside, or if money is tight, do two insides.

Years ago, as a TA, I booked an OV cabin for three people (Mom, DD, aunt) on one of the NCL Hawaii ships. This was for DD's high school graduation. I REPEATEDLY advised them that the cabin was VERY small, and it would be crowded. I gave them hints for packing, told them not to expect a motel-sized room, etc. I think this was in about 2004. Of course, after the cruise, I received a scathing letter from these clients about the small cabin size. So much for me trying to advise them!

Oh man, I've only ever been on one cruise before (going on another in January) but I couldn't possibly imagine having two other people in that room with me! It's pretty cramped with just two people.. only one bathroom.. one TV.. one set of lights.. just doesn't sound like a great idea to me!

4 adults....185 sq feet...unless you have a 9A (230 sq feet)...sounds VERY tight to me, let alone storage issues, dressing issues, bathroom issues, etc. I sure hope those sizes don't include the balcony. If this were 4 20 year olds it might be one thing but I think mom is NOT going to enjoy her cruise on the Pride. I hope changes can be made....

As someone who has sailed in a balcony cabin on the Dawn, I have to concur with the quoted poster. Carnival has some of the largest standard cabins in the industry, so if there are concerns while on Carnival there WILL BE CONCERNS ONCE ON NCL.

Book that inside cabin across the hall IMMEDIATELY!!! You will thank us all later. :)

This has been my 2 cents. Happy travels.

We had a balcony room on the dawn with three people and it was a tight fit. The sofa bed is very small and only one adult can fit comfy. Do you also have a pull down bed from the ceiling? If not get another room for them quickly. You will be tripping over each other in that room. Have a great cruise.

Just got off the Pearl and we had a cat BA. It was me, hubby in the beds and my 9 yr old on the pull out. Thank goodness we got the teens their own room. The Pull out was VERY hard- even my daughter complained and she sleeps on the floor... When the pull out is open there is NO space to walk around.

We just had my three adult sons in a BA on the Dawn. They were okay but I would not advise it for two couples no matter how close they may be. There is no room at all with the sofa bed pulled out and they will all end up ready to kill before the end of the week. Do your mom a favor and make them get two cabins or a AB if the POA has them. AB's have two bedrooms and two baths but are much more expensive because it comes with all the suite perks.

I would suggest upgrading to a mini suite. The sofabed is good size if you want to stay in a cabin together.

If you have a cruise that stops at a port every day, you won't feel cramped because you will only be in your cabin to sleep.

We are cruising with our DD and SIL and their twins. We booked one inside and one balcony across the hall from each other. Since we will be babysitting the twins, I figure we will have plenty of time to enjoy the balcony while my DD and SIL are at dinner and production shows. She and I will also enjoy the balcony while the men are in the casino.

DH and I don't mind inside cabins when we are on cruises that stop at ports every day. However, when there are several sea days, I usually splurge for a balcony. We'll enjoy using my DD's balcony with the twins while the parents enjoy alone time.

Thank you all for the replies. I will share this info with mom when she and dad return. My brother has made all the plans so mom can get with him. When I first heard they would all be in the same cabin I was hoping NCL had larger balcony cabins. I really like the idea of an inside across from the balcony. Thanks again!!

My family would have no problem with this; we're fine with four in an inside cabin... but this isn't about my family - or anyone else here. While everyone is sharing great ideas and opinions, I think the question has already been answered by the most appropriate - and most important - source... your mom. She's the one that will be in the cabin, and she's the one currently experiencing a cabin she feels is 'small' now - and it's larger than what she would be sharing with two additional adults on the POA.

I think booking two cabins is really the best choice here. :)

I just noted.........the grouping includes a mother- and daughter-in-law. My mother-in-law has always been pretty nice, but I cannot imagine a more stressful situation than sharing a small cabin and an even smaller bathroom with her:eek:. Do everybody a favour and book another cabin!

This! I've haven't cruised NCL yet, but I've cruised Celebrity and Carnival (which I think the Carnival rooms are slightly bigger than NCL) and the only way I would cruise w/ 4 people in a balcony is if 2 were small children....even when my sister and I were 17 and 19 years old we sailed in adjoining rooms w/ my parents so we weren't too cramped in one room.

It depends on the people of course, but for me, you couldn't pay me enough money to sail in the same room as my MIL and FIL or even my own parents for that matter...definitely no personal space so they need to decide if they can handle that for a week...
