Smoking?Nonsmoking on the Pride?

Being the first cruise,, we've heard various adn contradicting stories from friends who are previous cruisers. We're going out on the Pride in 10/10, and both my husband and I are asmthamtic and semi-allergic to smoke. I called the cruise agency we booked thru to see if our balcony room (4211) is going to be a balcony we can't use with chances of multismokers around us.

Their response was that any cruiser is entitles to smoke in their stateroom and balcony (and then she said she doesn't think Pride has staterooms) and smoking is on the port or strboard side (according to her we're on starboard). Can anyone with previous experience explain this so we know we can enjoy the cruise?

Carnival allows smoking in all rooms and on balconies. It doesn't matter where on the ship you are. The only exceptions are a few of the newer ships that have "Spa" rooms that are non-smoking but the Pride doesn't have these.

On the open air decks like the Lido, smoking is only allowed on one side and the other will be non-smoking. All restaurants will be non-smoking along with the main show lounge and the atrium.

Places you will want to avoid are the sports bar, casino, piano bar & the upper level of the disco (the lower level is non-smoking where the dance floor is.) You will probably need to plan trips across the ship so as not to go through the casino since you have to go through the casino on that deck to get from one end of the ship to the other. Try going up deck and using that to go forward or aft.

As for the balcony thing it will be luck of the draw whether or not you get smokers out there but it is a possibility.

Smoking IS allowed on ALL balconies.

Unfortunately, you will have to watch for smoke during your cruise. I also have asthma and will not be going through the smoky areas of the ship. I manage to do that fairly easily. The only thing I would like is if the piano bar could have some smoke free days or hours but we'll just handle it by sneaking in when the smokers are not around.

Ok, I smoke..we'll get that out of the way.

(I also try to be considerate of the non smokers)

My question is..if the ship is moving, isn't there enough wind

to keep the balcony air clear?

I know that on the outside decks, there seems to be plenty

of wind, or breeze, whatever you want to call it.

I am just curious here, and not trying to cause problems.

Yes, it's pretty windy on your balcony and deck and the smoke will NOT linger. That said there are many folks who I feel over react to a smoker. Oh well, as long as it's allowed I have no problems.

I am not going to try to cause problms on this thread and trying to stay on topic. I am an ex-smoker,,quit 15 years ago (and we can be the worst). It is hard for smokers to understand that smoke can be smelled (is that a word) from far away. Heck, driving down the freeway if someone is smoking in the car ahead of you and blowing out the window it can be smelled (smelt?). I know this is hard to comprehend but it is true, we really can smell it. A couple of weeks ago we had a painter come into the house to give us an estimate, I was not home. When I got home I could smell the smoke in my house, even though he had already gone and didn't smoke in my house.

As far as on ships I have only been on HAL cruises so far, thier smoking policy is almost like CCLs, but I have never smelled smoke on my balcony (and if I did, it doesn't bother me, but stale smoke does). I did have a cabin on one ship that smelled pretty bad (same policy of smoking allowed in cabins) but the cabin steward got our his magic wand while we went to lunch and the smell was 100% gone when we came back (I sure would like to know how they do that). So to the OP, there will be smoking, but really it's not anything worse then anywhere on land and it probably won't be a problem, except maybe the piano bar (and sometimes the casino).

It's very strange. It seems that, in some cases, the laws of physics are completely defied.

Smoke from a cigarette leaves your mouth or wafts off the tip of your ciggie, carefully floats to the nearest balcony where the rabid nonsmokers are enjoying themselves (only those with deadly smoke allergies or diseases that smoke will cause to instantly become seriously ill)..and comes to a complete stop, the cloud totally intact and hangs around that balcony only.

No matter the ships speed, no matter the gale force winds or brisk tropical breezes, the smoke simply stops there and stays.

I think Steven Hawking is working on that.

LMAO!!

So true, and that cabin would be my wifes parents and it would be only our smoke getting there. :D

(Even if we were on the opposite side of the ship on a different deck)

Literally just before our last cruise which was on the Pride, I was diagnosed with asthma in the hospital. The attacks were severe and I was so miserable that I considered cancelling the cruise. In the end I decided not to cancel because I didn't want to ruin the fun for my boyfriend or the couple going with us. Long story short, I was hesitant about the smoking areas on the ship. I did go to the casino and the sports bar, but both bothered my asthma. My suggestion would be to try to spend time in the areas you enjoy even if they are smoking areas and if you start to feel asthmatic symptoms then avoid those areas. One thing that was a big problem for me that I never considered was the shows. The shows that used fog bothered my asthma a lot. Of course we were always sitting quite close. So keep that in mind when attending.
