poohb223 Posted December 21, 2009 #1 Share Posted December 21, 2009 We booked the Sea Turtle & Shipwreck Snorkel excursion for the morning and want to sit on the beach for the rest of the day before the ship leaves. What is the closest beach to the cruise ship? Is there one within walking distance or do we have to take a taxi?
nannie70 Posted December 21, 2009 #2 Share Posted December 21, 2009 Is there a beach not too far just to spent several hours sitting in the sun & swimming? Don't need a special tour, just able to relax for several hours. Thanks in advance.

Aplmac Posted December 24, 2009 #4 Share Posted December 24, 2009 Brandon beach. Yes, Brandons Beach (aka Malibu or BRIGHTON Beach) is close by -visible from the ship! _______________________________ But for a nicer, bigger beach you could get a quick taxi ride to Carlisle Bay.. where you can access the beach for free via a small public window-to-the-sea between Lobster Alive and Boatyard beach hangouts. Lobster lunch spot. ....................................................... Rent a beach umbrella and chairs from Lobster Alive and your day is all set! . sunquest76 Posted December 24, 2009 #5 Share Posted December 24, 2009 aplmac: Could a "reasonable" person walk to Brandon's beach from the port? We would also like to visit the Malibu Rum factory. Again, is this something a reasonable person could walk to?
Aplmac Posted December 25, 2009 #6 Share Posted December 25, 2009 aplmac: Could a "reasonable" person walk to Brandon's beach from the port? ===> Possible. We would also like to visit the Malibu Rum factory. ===> Possible! Again, is this something a reasonable person could walk to? ===> Yes but.. Yes, you can walk it, but the route's a bit tricky(not obvious)thru unattractive docklands/industrial area, on the other side of the Port from where you'll exit If you have a good sense of direction, it'll be about a 10-15 min. walk, all told and the Malibu Rum Distillery is at the far end of that beach shot I showed, in the post above. Here's the view looking in that direction, taken from the top deck of your ship. Those industrial 'stacks' you see are the electricity generating plant and the tall bldg. to the immediate right of the smaller stacks is the distillery bldg. The beach shows as a narrow strip in this morning light shot (not the best time of day to photograph this West Coast beach, sorry) but hopefully this pic will help orient you. That's our Coast Guard station -with breakwater- in the foreground. If it's a hot day, you might want to take the short inexpensive taxi ride - and walk back, when you're done (if you haven't had too many Rum Punches!) :D . Can'tstopcruising Posted December 27, 2009 #7 Share Posted December 27, 2009 Has Lobster Alive been there for many years? We went to Carlisle beach a couple of years ago and it was practically empty. We were on the other side of Boatyard. There was a dock (or something) that divided us. Where exactly is Lobster Alive? Thanks.
shavdog Posted December 29, 2009 #8 Share Posted December 29, 2009 To more or less walk to boat yard take the 1 dollar shuttle into town then you need to "kinda walk off to the right" for about 6 blocks...you might ask along the way...we've done that a few times....then take a taxi back...the last time we were at boatyard they were catering to a much younger crowd with very loud music so I think theres a place down the beach from them about 3-4 blocks that looks like it has more music to our liking and was alittle more laid back...we're there off celebrity summit in jan...craig
