A few easy questions......

I have a few easy questions(I hope). I am planning another cruise this will be our second(first was on the Carnival Holiday).

On our first one we bought the Carnival insulated tall mugs, and mixed our liquor in them and carried them all over, no one bugged us to buy any drinks cause it looked like we already did...

my question is are these different on every ship? different color? different size mug? we will probably bring them anyway cause they worked great, just wondering.

Also we thought that on our next cruise we would stay on the ship when we port, what are (if any) advantages of this... is the dining room open for lunch? is things still going on? is the pool still open? or does most of the ship just shut down when in port?

One more... if you want to put cash down on your S&S card do you jut go to the purser? Even if you have a credit card as your form of payment will it just use up the cash and then start charging after the cash is gone? We thought this would be helpful when it came time to settle the bill but wasn't sure about how to do it.

Thanks for all your input!!!!!;):p

If you mean the plastic insulated mugs that can be purchased with the soda card, I have only seen them in red. They do sell a non-insulated blue one in the gift shops. I also bring my red one on each cruise to use for self mixed drinks and iced tea. Works great and the pool waiters do seem to not pester me as much, but all it takes is a polite "no thank you" when asked if want an over priced drink.

Also we thought that on our next cruise we would stay on the ship when we port, what are (if any) advantages of this... is the dining room open for lunch? is things still going on? is the pool still open? or does most of the ship just shut down when in port? Most activities are open during port days, with the exception of the casino in most ports. I have stayed on board a couple of ports and had a very relaxing day.

Enjoy your cruise.

That's great news... my husband was worried it would be a ghost ship and if we wanted lunch we would have to get off the ship anyway because things would be closed!!

Thanks now I can tell him the good news!!

If your next cruise is on Carnival, the dining rooms will not be open for lunch when the ship is in port, nor will the casinos. Everything else should be (lido buffet and room service will be available for lunch)...and the pools will be MUCH less crowded. We really enjoyed staying on board in port on our last cruise...we had the pool deck almost all to ourselves.

Enjoy your cruise!!

Staying on board while in port is wonderful...special deals on spa treatments...quieter by the pool...all the same amenities as "at sea" days but less people..

Personally I am one who stays on board...maybe get off for a little shopping but I am a cruiser...I enjoy the cruise experience and lets face it..that is what I am paying for..why get off and spend money at a restaurant in port when I can get lunch on the ship...don't get me wrong I love to experience the ports and occasionally take part in an excursion..but I love the ship

After all this info I think we will stay on the ship next time, our last cruise we didn't even order room service, can you believe that, we just forgot!!!!

If your room does not come with a fridge can you ask for one and get it? We want to bring some drinky-drinks and like them cold and wasn't sure how to keep them that way. The last cruise if we had bought them it would have been hard to keep them cold as we never had any ice in our room, nor a bucket!!

Any tips??

I'm guessing you're talking about Carnival (you didn't say which line you're planning to go on this time), but you'll find that many people will stay onboard (they may have done the same ports before or they decide to just relax, do laundry, go to the spa, whatever).

I imagine it doesn't matter what mug you have. If a waiter is asking about to see who wants to buy a drink, they probably are looking for someone without a drink or who obviously has a glass that's low on liquid.

yes if we go again it will be with Carnival, and staying on board sounds more and more appealing.

What about the fridge question, or is there some ships that have them in inside cabins, thats what we would be in.
