How crowded will all of the beaches be with 2 ships in port?
Not very.

Two ships is nothing..seriously. ;)

When there are six ships in port -then you might notice it.

This is what five ships at Bridgetown looks like.

Your day's an easy one..really!

Thinking about the Hilton but need to know if the swimming is good there on the beach.
Hilton beach has two spots you can take a dip in the ocean

There's this one here..

HiltonBeach-839.jpg

but there's another one just over the beach-horizon in this shot

which is more sheltered.

I realize the photo shows a nice, calm sea

but this photo was taken on a very calm October day: this spot is usually a lot more surfy and 'energetic'

You could walk up the beach a mile, to Hastings Beach

then hook up with the boardwalk, which will get you to Accra or Rockley Beach as it's more correctly known

and swim there.

We are planning to try the boatyard as it has loungers, a bar and a climbing wall in the sea. Its only a $5 taxi ride $15 entrance fee which includes a free bus ride back to port. Never tried it before but it has been recommended. Paynes bay is also a great beach we swan with turtles from there without the hoardes of tourists you see on catamarans, just us and the turles it was fantastic. Hope you enjoy your trip.

Is Paynes Bay the only area to swim with the turtles? How far from port is this and $ for taxi?

Thanks

Paynes Bay is a $15 return taxi ride per person. When you get there you tell your driver what time to pick you up, and you pay him on the return trip. We were there last week, and you can swim out from the beach to see the turtles. Just head for where all of the boats are dropping people into the water. Next time we will take the city bus, it goes right by the beach, and returns right into town.

We ended up at the boat yard because our snorkelling excursion was cancelled. We were first heading to Accra beach for $ 7 pp but others in our bus were going to the boat yard at $ 3 pp. The admission to the boat yard was $ 10 pp but it included a chair, a drink and a shuttle back to the pier.

The facility was very nice with soft sand, food and drinks at reasonable prices and the water was heavenly. I have included some pictures of their pier that you can rope swing on and you can see the ship under from the beach but it would be a long walk.
