Chemicals in Oceania Pools

Rogey

Recommended Posts

A Nautica Cruise Critic review recently mentioned signs around the pools area (spa and swimming pool) warning people about chemicals in the water. The reviewer said her swimming costume faded badly within a week due to the chemicals and advised people not to bring their favourite costume.

We're wondering what Oceania is putting in its pools, especially the spa pool. If the chemical content is too high it will irritate eyes as well.

Can anyone confirm the review comment or add more information?

Rogey-

Both pools (Spa and Main) are filled with chlorinated salt water. The water is tested every morning and the level of chlorine is balanced against the contaminate levels in the water and the volume of use that they are expecting for the day (i.e. more use in better weather, less use in rain or cold weather).

In the Spa pool, the water is both agitated and heated, so a true comparison between the two pools is difficult.

Over the course of several cruises, we have spent a good deal of time in those pools and our (nylon &/or cotton) bathing suites were unaffected, except that they did smell of chlorine after use.

Thanks StanandJim and Lyn for your advice. I think rinsing suits after being in the spa or the main pool is the way to go.

If you use a little bit of shampoo or soap it helps also but rinse well;)
