last minute cruise

What is the cut off for a last minute cruise? I know if it is full they will quit taking reservations. But what is the absolute latest you can book a last minute cruise?

It just all depends on availability.

The morning the cruise leaves, if they still have cabins left. Thats the latest I know anyone booked and got on the ship.

We want to take my husbands mom on a cruise. She's 80 and she never gets to go anywhere and this is something she would like to do. We can do a last minute (like a month or so out) but where can I find the best deal for something like this? We will be paying for her and would like to do a March or April one this year. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
