stoli1021 Posted January 12, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 12, 2010 Were thinking of taking an Alaska cruise on Infinity 9/3/10. Were taking the cruise late because were trying to avoid all the kids. Were concerned about the weather. Any thoughts on the late season sailing?
eandj Posted January 12, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 12, 2010 Days are shorter and it is downright chilly. But if you don't want kids, why not go in late May. Temps might be a little better for you. Prices of course will be best in the shoulder season.
Karynanne Posted January 12, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 12, 2010 We've taken a late season Alaska cruise, and the weather was great! It was the last cruise of the season. But it's Alaska, and you never know about the weather.
Phxazzcruisers Posted January 12, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 12, 2010 It should be downright chilly, but it is Alaska, and that is all part of the adventure. It is a good time to travel to avoid the kids
katree Posted January 12, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 12, 2010 I've done the Sept Alaska in 2008 & 2009. In `08 it was rainy and 50's, in `09 it was Sunny and 60's -- even 70's a couple of days. I think it's perfect weather, but I'm from Oregon...
RCMarr Posted January 20, 2010 #6 Share Posted January 20, 2010 We did the Alaska cruise the first week of June 2009. We were told there were around 150 kids onboard, but we rarely saw them. There was a family next door to us with three kids. They were the main ones we saw. The mom said their kids loved the kid section/activities and spent as much time as possible up there. We did see a few children playing in the pool a couple of times, but not that often. Unless it was an unusual trip, I doubt I would worry about kids on the cruise. However, this was our first cruise and perhaps we overlooked the few kids we saw or they were well behaved and we had no reason to notice them. :)
LeftcoastBC Posted January 20, 2010 #7 Share Posted January 20, 2010 Kids have never been a problem on our trips aboard Infinity. Early/mid/late seasons. Weather could be the same for any and all. Early season less fog but more ice difficulties at Hubbard.
samar Posted January 27, 2010 #8 Share Posted January 27, 2010 This will be our second cruise. Our first was on Royal to the Caribbean which was just too large for us. We liked this cruise-tour and were told its a great time of year to visit Alaska. We're baby boomers and although a nice mix of ages is more fun, we're concerned about being the seniors on board. Can someone hlp with cabin selection, 8171 is available as are other cabins. We've never been on Celebrity and could use some help navigating. Thanks. greydog Posted January 28, 2010 #9 Share Posted January 28, 2010 We've done AK five times, incl 3 mid-late May, 2 early Sept. Mostly fair-good weather but no guarantees. Mt. Roberts, Skagway hiking trails can be closed or need snowshoes in May. A big plus for Sept trip is that many merchants mark their wares down 50% to clear out inventory at season's end - if you're into shopping. Good Luck with your trip. Rare Lois R Posted January 28, 2010 #10 Share Posted January 28, 2010 I have sailed to Alaska 3 times and twice in September. Yes, it rained. I packed accordingly and had a fabulous time:D:):D
