Move Over??

Have a question..if your cruise is sold out and all categories are wait listed, how does Princess handle the "move over" to another cruise for passengers already assigned to cabins? Are the offers to people who have volunteered to move over or is it just done random? Can you volunteer to go to the "move over" list and to whom do you speak?

Any info would be appreciated...

If you find a way to volunteer, you bet you won't usually receive the greatest of offers, IMHO. If this were the case, we would volunteer for each and every cruise. Keep in mind, they are attempting to tempt you into moving, so volunteering would mean you wanted this. It all depends on which staterooms they may need who receives the offers.

It's kind of like the upgrade fairy, you just never know who will or will not receive the move over offer.

Just another comment here. Even if your cruise is showing it is sold out, it does not mean the cruise is 'oversold'. Probably 90% of Princess cruises show sold out but only a small percentage of them are actually oversold. They have a method of calculating the percentage of last minute cancellations, and when this doesn't happen, then occasionally they oversell a cruise and they offer the move overs to those that occupy the type of staterooms they need to fill. ;)

That's true. Princess, like airlines, hold back a certain amount of cabins on most sailings until it gets much closer to the sail date. (They have to assign all those Guarantees and recall Group space that hasn't sold.)

 

With NCL, I have a way of getting upsells and move-over offers. With Princess, it is not as easy.

maybe for domestic, but our move-over came on a Med cruise and resulted in us moving from peak season to later in the year, saving $$$ on airfare (also booked through Princess). In our case it was the cabin they wanted. It was a great offer, which we received just 3 days before the cruise, and then we got a cruise to Egypt that we originally could not afford.
