jblair Posted January 17, 2005 #29 Share Posted January 17, 2005 KRUZ-If Captain Johnny is the Captain for your sailing, you are lucky! We are on the MOS on 1/30 and we have Captain Hansen. I can't find any info out about him. We sailed on the MOS last year on 1/29 and I think I recall that they just switched Captains right before that sailing too. I have read so many great things about Johnny, I am hopeful that Captain Hansen will be equally as great! Have a great time!

GranysT Posted January 17, 2005 #31 Share Posted January 17, 2005 Hello Radio, So you are on the Mariner once again. Lucky You :p I read everything you wrote, and stared repeatedly at the picture's you sent, from your 1st time in Dec. You are an amazing writer and can make us all feel as tho we are right there with you. Even with all your forewarning, when I stepped on Mariner myself,in April of 04,my jaw literally dropped. She is awesome, and cannot be fully appreciated without witnessing her first hand. I anxiously await your daily message's and pics to us.Please compare now with your previous cruise's,and let us know how well our "lady" is holding up. I trust she is doing very well. I did not get to meet this famous Capt Johnny. Our Captain in April was Tor Olsen. He was also a very good Captain, and quite proud of the Mariner. DJHere Posted January 17, 2005 #32 Share Posted January 17, 2005 We are thinking of doing a Back to Back Cruise on The Mariner on November 27/December 4. What is the weather like around Port Canaveral, FL that time of the year? We usually leave from Miami for cruising. Donna

Rare Radio Posted January 17, 2005 Author #35 Share Posted January 17, 2005 Hello Everyone.... We finally left Port Canaveral at about 6:30PM. It seems that all of the passengers made it onboard. It was very unusual for me to leave the port at night. Captain Johnny announced that we would be sailing through a little rough seas until the afternoon on Monday. The wind has calmed considerably....Only about 6mph now (25mph when we left) The Fantasy left at about 430, and Disney Wonder left port at about 545(Maybe they were waiting for passengers as well) The ship is sailing full, however I estimate that the dining room was only about 2/3 full last night. Maybe some of the passenegers were feeling ill. The Welcome aboard show was OK...There were the RCI Singers and Dancers, a Hat Juggler, and Comedian (very funny). The CD this week is Simeon Baker. He seemed to be very outgoing and friendly. I have to say that I was very tired...and didn't stay up too late last night. Tomorrow will be our first day at sea, and there will be lot's to do. I will try to answer as many questions as I can. There are many posts that ask about the Movies on Board the ship. For Sunday, the movies are "The Prince and Me" and "Big Bounce". For Monday the movies are "13 Going on 30" and "50 First Dates" They did broadcast both Playoff Games yesterday in the cabin and in the Casino. The sports bar (deck 14) when I checked did not have it, but they were trying to get it to work . Today we have our official cruise Critic MM at 1Pm at Ellingtons. The Concierge this week is Ricardo Ugalde. The Holiday decorations must have been just removed from the ship... there were still a few remaining at the Concierge Lounge. We are now south of Miami, between the Florida Coast and Andros Island. Our heading is 175 at about 22.8 Kts. Thanks for tuning in ! Radio ;) Disny Wonder 5pm and Still here..... sj25 Posted January 17, 2005 #39 Share Posted January 17, 2005 First keep it coming will be there b2b on Oct 16 and 23 for our 25th anniversary! My question is when you tendered and hubby said you use those yellow boats to come in to the shore. I didn't know that, we never had to do that with the only cruise we took with carnival. anyways the question is how big are they, how many people fit in them, and how early do you have to get in line if there is over three thousand people on that ship? any one have a picture while your in one? Love, your pictures and love when everyone does these reviews..really get you anxious for the cruise. I never had this site for my first cruise so making this one sooooo much nicer and learning so much thanks everyone for us that have not went on very many cruises...but have become addicted to it.:)
sj25 Posted January 17, 2005 #40 Share Posted January 17, 2005 Ok I read my thread to him and he goes noooooooooooooooooooooo not those yellow boats on the side, ok I know I said those is what takes you in...anyways guess my question still stands what kind of boat takes you in and ect.. sorry! lol
TBRay Posted January 17, 2005 #41 Share Posted January 17, 2005 RADIO: Glad to hear that Labadee is still on the schedule. A few weeks ago there were some topics about that being deleted due to unrest in Haiti. Great to see that is not the case. Also surprised to see I'm not the only one heading out for their 3rd trip aboard Mariner. We leave on the 30th (along with another bunch of CC'ers) for the Western route. Since it will be our first Western swing since 2001 I'll be monitoring this thread closely for those valuable pieces of information. I'd be interested in: 1) Current coffee prices in Ocho Rios (Blue Mtn. of course) 2) How "rebuilt" Grand Cayman appears. 3) Which dock Mariner uses at Cozumel (I have a car rental waiting at the "International Pier", hope that is the right one). Great photos. We have virtually the same cameras but yours just come out better.... Happy Sailing. :p
TBRay Posted January 17, 2005 #42 Share Posted January 17, 2005 Ok I read my thread to him and he goes noooooooooooooooooooooo not those yellow boats on the side, ok I know I said those is what takes you in...anyways guess my question still stands what kind of boat takes you in and ect..sorry! lol Tender boats are quite large and hold literally hundreds of passengers (most are double decker boats). Ports like Labadee usually rotate two to three tenders so there is constantly ships going to shore. No problems Mon... :D If you saw the yellow lifeboats out and about it was probably a lifeboat drill being performed by the crew. Pretty standard on every cruise. Not used for tendering though. Jacquelyn11 Posted January 17, 2005 #44 Share Posted January 17, 2005 Another poster who will be "tuning in" all week! It looks like from the pic you are in a D1 or E1. If you are in a D1, how much room do you have between the bed and the wall? It seem very small on the diagram. I noticed from your pic page you have posted the Compasses from your other cruises. Are you planning to do the same for this cruise? This may be asking too much, but could you get the Compasses from Adventure Ocean and post those also? I know lots of other parents are interested also. Hope the seas are kind and you have a wonderful time! :) Jacquelyn :D

Rare Radio Posted January 17, 2005 Author #48 Share Posted January 17, 2005 Hello Everyone... It looks like that today's weather might be very good . It's sunny out...no rain but very windy..The relative wind is 46mph NW and it feels like about 76f.... We have sailed 390 miles so far and still have about 390 miles to go before we get to Labadee. We are currently about 8 miles from CayoCoco(not CocoCay), a small island north of Cuba...Just east of CayoRomano. Jacquelyn11...I will post the Adventure Ocean Compasses for you. I usually post the Compasses after each cruise.I will include the A/O Compasses this time. I am in a D2. It is identical to D1 except D1's are on Deck10. The D3's are quads (I think) sj25..I will post some pics this week of the tenders in Labadee and Grand Cayman... TBRay...We will be at the International Pier...The rental car area is very close...Only about 200 yards.
