Recommended Posts

we are looking to get to Harrisons caves. There are 6 in our party...

what would be the best way to get there? Through a ship excursion?

2 cabs? I see the rates are approx $46...is that per person?

thanks for any info you can provide

First thing is check to see if it will be open, the caves are under constant "conservation" I would say the cab fare is per cab in a normal size car but would be (less) per person in a small coach/minivan. I would include the caves along with other things as an hour or so is enough provided there are no queues.

I just --15 mins. ago--

came back from a personal assessment visit to the construction site at Harrisons Caves

and I can tell you it's not ready yet.

Looks like it's getting there, for sure

but if you ask me, and knowing local "speed and efficiency"

I'd say it's going to be a few months yet before it'll be open.

The (new!)three elevator shafts are fully constructed, with rails and other elevator equipment in place

but still un-painted/unfinished as of Sunday Jan. 17th.

I took some pics, but they'll have to come later, sorry.

OK here's three views of the brand new elevator shafts

that'll ride you guys down to the old entrance complex.

I had previously stated(another thread)

that it was lookin like these shafts would take you straight down to the caves, in one go.

Not so. I was wrong.

These shafts stop at ground level in these pics,

which were taken at the (old) entrance level we all know and remember

It's lookin like the new Arrivals complex up top of the cliff (pics to come soon)

has been created so many more vehicles, coaches, cars, taxis can be accommodated.

Loads of parking space, up there!

The old complex and entrance was waaay too small

for the sheer volume of vehicles that used to congregate there!

As you can see from the four attached pics below

things are coming close to fruition, up on top the cliff

where the spacious, new parking yard is now paved, etc.

looks like some cleaning up and landscaping work remains to be done..

Judge for yourself when it'll be opened.

I saw guys running underground cables this Sunday morning when I went up there

so it looks like they're working on it.

(Working? -on a Sunday? unheard of! LOL).

Who knows...but it can't be long now.

Thanks everyone for checking on this. My husband and I will be there on Feb. 10th and were really hoping the caves would be open by then. Sounds like we'd better come up with a plan B. Aplmac, would you please keep checking and let us know if/when there is a firm reopening date? Thanks so much!!
