sail7seas Posted January 17, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 17, 2010 Been many years since we had a meatloaf in our house but DH asked me to make one. I can't find my generations old family recipe, haven't made it in 20 or more years and can't remember it. Sure, I have lots of cookbooks and lots of recipes and plenty on line but would like to make him the meatloaf HAL was (still is?) serving. Anyone have HAL's Meatloaf Recipe? Would really appreciate it. ( I checked both of Rudi Sodamin's cookbooks and it isn't in either one.) About a month ago, someone named Chef Matthew posted here he is a former HAL Chef and he offered to share recipes. Hope he sees this and will help. :)
Krazy Kruizers Posted January 17, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 17, 2010 This is the recipe that Joanie posted on her site: Best Meat Loaf[ BEST MEATLOAF BASIC MIX: 1 1/2 pounds ground beef 1 c. fresh Italian style bread crumbs 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped 3-4 cloves garlic, finely minced 1 large onion, finely chopped 1 large green bell pepper, chopped 1 egg 1 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon onion powder 1/4 teaspoon pepper 1 8 oz can tomato sauce 1 cup ketchup 1/2 cup water or beef stock (can use bouillon) 3 tbsp. sail7seas Posted January 17, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted January 17, 2010 Is it HAL's recipe? I can find hundreds of meatloaf recipes on line, of course, but am looking for HAL's. That doesn't indicate it is HAL's but maybe it is??? Thanks.
Krazy Kruizers Posted January 17, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 17, 2010 As far as I know Joanie only outs in recipes that she receives from people who have gotten them from the HAL ships. She even has her name listed under it. Wish she would come on and say if she really did get the recipe from HAL.
sail7seas Posted January 17, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted January 17, 2010 No, I don't think so. She had bread pudding that wasn't HAL's recipe so don't know about others. I think I've read here some posted that are 'like' HAL's. For today, I'll make a recipe I have and will contact HAL to verify the real one. Krazy Kruizers Posted January 17, 2010 #6 Share Posted January 17, 2010 Over the years I got 2 different bread puddings and 3 or 4 different chocolate volcano ones. Seems like some of the chefs like to add their own twist.
sail7seas Posted January 17, 2010 Author #7 Share Posted January 17, 2010 Yes, sometimes that is the case. Anyway, if that IS HAL's recipe, (and who knows?), I think I'll pass. I don't like the sound of it. I've got others sound more to our taste.
