Need "Cruise Bingo" phrases!

Recommended Posts

I've got about 2-1/2 months before my transatlantic cruise. I also need a new programming project. And I need everyone's help.

I'm sure all of you are familiar with "Buzzword Bingo", a game played in boring corporate meetings. But if not... the traditional Bingo card is instead filled with random buzzwords and phrases. Words like "leverage" and "incentivize" and "negative growth impact".

I want to make one for things you see on a cruise! But I need help making a list of good terms or phrases. I'd like them to be a fun combination of the annoying (tongue-in-cheek, of course), the unusual, the genuinely funny, etc.

I hope to make this into a web page where you can print your own randomized cards.

Here's a few off the top of my head. Please add to the list!

- Spotting a senior officer out and about

- Seeing your cabin steward somewhere other than your room or corridor

- Inappropriate PDA (public display of affection)

- Inappropriate swimwear (think overweight + Speedo)

- Stumbling drunks before noon

- Someone ordering more than 2 lobster tails

- Deck-chair hogging/reserving

I know you guys are up to the challenge. I need TONS of these. Each Bingo card only has 24 squares and the less duplication, the better.

I fudged..... asked for 'cruise phrases'..;)

anchors away, art auction, chocolate on pillow, adventure, on-shore excursions, port of call, cruise, welcome aboard drink, bingo, shuffle board, all aboard, total bliss, hot tub, captain's table, porthole, spa, smooth sailing, formal night, sea breeze, sunset, casino, paradise, luxury, cheers, food food and more food, sail away, cruise ship, martini bar, pampered, deck party, broadway style shows, pool games, dancing under the stars, getting spoiled, bon voyage, ship shape, midnight buffet and more.

Thanks for the first response... but now I realize I wasn't clear on what I had in mind (posting too early in the morning )

I want the cards to have things you'll see while out and about - either on the deck, in the dining room, on shore leave, etc. Carry the card with you as you go about your thing... first one in your group to get a BINGO wins, I dunno, the drink of the day on someone else's tab.

In Buzzword Bingo, you mark off those annoying phrases as the speaker gives his or her presentation. In Cruise Bingo, you mark off those funny/interesting/annoying items you spot during your daily wanderings.

Hello, This sounds like fun! I was going to say a Bride, but, someone beat me to it. How about someone carrying their lifejacket around other than on the first day for the muster. I have seen people in the MDR with them. Speaking of that, I once saw a woman with a "formal" bib on in the MDR (it had glitter on it), you could look for that...Have fun...Maureen

My suggestions:

- Rum runner (plastic pouch for smuggling liquor)

- Cruise Critic sign on someone's cabin door

- Someone passed out on the Lido deck late at night

- Someone passed out on the Lido deck in broad daylight

- Someone using the word corresponding to your ship's name in non-cruising context, in a conversation with you

- Someone wearing a piece of clothing with another cruise line's logo (e.g. Royal Caribbean T-shirt on a Carnival ship)

- Someone asking "what time is the midnight buffet?"

- People spoofing a Titanic scene in the Lido pool

- Two girls/women making out in the nightclub

- An inside cabin passenger looking confused about the time of day

- A wedding (ceremony, reception, or both)

- You saying "waiter, there's a [whatever] in my soup!"

- You forgetting where your cabin is

- An adult man or woman in the kiddie pool and not related to any of the children

- Two people who clearly just met at the singles party, engaging in massive PDA

- Someone looking for a feature not found on your ship (e.g. a Mickey Mouse character on a Holland America ship)

- Shuffleboard court on any deck

- A chair hog

- Someone who gave up looking for a chair and set their towel right on the deck floor (just the towel lying flat counts)

- This list or another list from this thread lying on a table somewhere
