What to do at PEDANG BAY { BALI } ????

Any suggestions as what to do/ see on arrival at this port ?? Sun Princess June 2010:)

Its a few years since I was there.....

but your best bet

is to practice saying

NO

as you run the gauntlet

of vendors,

and begging children,

after you disembark the tender

and try to find your tour bus.

The Kiwi is spot-on, and not out-of-date.:eek:

But this is only at the tender pier. Once you've sorted a minibus for the day (just $50 after some bargaining) get away from the jetty - the rest of Bali is not like that. :)

Two main suggestions:

The volcano - dont bother with the elephants, or the restaurant at the volcano/lake overview, but do stop for a break at a restaurant overlooking the paddy-fields - decent buffet for about $10pp And feed their pet bats hanging by the front door :cool:

And the monkey sanctuary - with stax of tourist shops nearby & no hassle.

There'll be loads of temples, the first few are interesting.

And the Court of Justice on the way back to the Bay.

But settle with the driver just before you get to the Bay, & save some energy for the return gauntlet run along the jetty :D

Thanks again John for your reply ..would the cost of $50 be per person USD how many seats in the minibus ?? does the driver take you to the places of interest and wait till you are ready to go or does he allow specific time etc.....????

Cost is USD for the vehicle for the day, prices are very very low. We did the same for a short 2nd day for just USD30. Others paid similar prices.

With (vaguely :D) english-speaking driver or guide. We were 8. Driver will suggest/agree an itinerary with you, can be varied, timescale is up to you subject to his advice re back-on-board time. They know how long each stop is worth.

Allowing an hour to spare at the end would be prudent to cover hold-up/breakdown/whatever - just a shame you can't use unspent spare time back at the jetty due to the pestering, but there's a bat cave 10/15 mins from the jetty, not spectacular but worth a stop if you end up with time to spare.

Our ship offered the same freestyle minibus booking for £220 :eek::eek::eek: , suggesting there may not be minibuses available on spec. We'd pre-booked a minibus for $55 (no money upfront) so weren't caught out. Our guy didn't show, but there were stax (the guys drive out to the Bay when a cruise ship is due) and the ship got a lot of stick for their duff info & prices.
