Triumph Tidbits?

We're getting close to that fifty day mark before we cruise on the Triumph, and I'd love to hear any Triumph Tidbits anyone can offer. Has anyone done the seven day Western Caribbean on the Triumph out of New Orleans? I'd like to hear anything you did that was special and areas/events not to be missed. I've gotten so much good info from Cruise Critic in the past. Thanks!

Good thread!!

I'm sailing on the Triumph in April with a newbie!!

Any gems about the Triumph is most helpful! She's really hyped because we have a cabin number (it's becoming more real for her!!).

One thing that I want to know is if there's a secret door on the Triumph? If so what deck and how to get to it????

There are indeed "secret doors" on the Triumph. One is on the Panorama Deck (deck 10) and I believe there's another on the Lido Deck (deck 9). They're all the way forward at the ends of the halls on both decks.

My stateroom is on the Panorama Deck, 29 March. What do these secret doors lead to?

I was on there for Christmas for my first cruise- it has a "Hong Kong Noodle Company" that makes great chinese food- it's only open a few hours a day so make sure you check it out if you like chinese- it's on the lido deck on the opposite side of the deli.

There is also a sushi stand right outside the Casino on several nights for a few hours.

I regret not purchasing a fancy dessert from the Vienna Cafe on the Promenade- they were suprisingly well priced but I didn't want to over induldge.

There is a retractable roof over the back pool & hot tubs if it starts to sprinkle or get cold.

I wasn't aware that this (door on the Lido Deck forward) was a "secret" door. It is the door to the observation deck above the bridge. It is the same on the Conquest class ships. It has always been one of our favorite places to go. Great for sail away. Guess it's not a secret anymore - LOL.

You're right...I don't think it's actually a secret, but it's not labelled, so people don't really know they can go out there. It was a few doors up from us last week and my cousin and I went out there and laid on some deck chairs for a while on our first sea day and fell asleep. It was great! a few people came out there walking around, some opening that door and looking like they were sneaking somewhere they weren't supposed to be. It was kinda funny. Great quiet spot if you don't have a balcony.

Just off the Triumph 7-day Western yesterday and it was a GREAT cruise! We had been to all the ports before but this one was the best time yet.

The Oxford Bar has an hour of either island music or latino music complete with salsa dancing lessons from 7:15 to 8:15 each night. The girl teaching the salsa is very talented and gets everyone on their feet spending time with everyone. It can get a bit smoky in there but it's a large area. The piano bar was dead all the time - the guy was not so good in there.

There are many late night shows in the Rio Lounge (aft) on deck 5. If you plan to go to any of them, get there at least 30 min. early. It's a small area for them to have so many shows there and it fills up quick.

Don't miss The Big Easy show on the last night of the cruise. Still one of my favorite shows but I love NOLA so maybe that's why. :)

The aft pool area is much quieter than the main pool deck BUT if they close the cover, it gets too hot in there within 15 minutes.

Big Tip - for the Fun Farewell party, it will say it's in the Rio but it's also going on in the bar to the right of the Rio and maybe the Piano Bar also. They are MUCH less crowded and easier to get waited on. The bar to the right has a band playing as well.

In Belize, I strongly recommend cave tubing for the able-bodied. Whatever you do, book a tour (ship or private) in Belize. The port area is only shopping and it's easier now to go behind the port area but not safer. You'll be bored if you don't do something in this port.

For Roatan - don't stay in the port area. Hire a driver and get out and see that beautiful island. Ziplining is great there for the adventurous. Many resorts have day passes and the beaches on the west end are fabulous on Roatan. The people are so nice there. Many who just wandered around wished they had booked something.

Breakfast and lunch in the dining room were good the few times we made it there and no wait. I like Hong Kong Noodle as well. The Lido food gets old and crowded so try the dining room for other meals on sea days. We've been in both dining rooms and prefer the London to the Paris. If you are in the back of the Paris dining room, there can be a lot of vibration and noise.

The Triumph is a pretty ship and the service we had was awesome this time (our 3rd on Triumph). We're so happy that she calls NOLA home now. :D I hope everyone has as great a time as we did!

Thanks Lezlee! I really appreciated your review and the details you included. We sail the Triumph March 1 and it was great to hear the thoughts from your cruise!

Last cruise I went out there several times and never saw a soul. Of course the wind was blowing 50 knots and there was a sign that had accidently dropped to the deck that said the door was closed for high winds. The secret is now out for everyone to know.:D
