If you fall overboard whats the best thing to do?

The most dangerous part of the trip will be any driving you do yourself. I'm sure you are a good driver, but that is not always true of the driver next to you. Even if you fly to the cruise, driving to and from the airport is much more dangerous than any other part of your trip. In other words, don't let unrational fear keep you from having a great vacation. When anyone does fall overboard, it makes world-wide news because it is just that -- a rare occurrence news event.

I did notice on a cruise or two that there is a gate (I think at the front of the ship slightly to one side) that you could easily open it and fall over. I have always stayed away from that gate just in case it wasn't closed tight.

That's kinda like when I fly, despite the extra legroom, I don't normally like my seat to be in the emergency exit row. You know, just in case that door flies open in mid-flight. Anyone not strapped in nearby gets sucked out like a giant vacuum got a hold of them.

Fortunately, on a cruise ship, if that gate flies open, you shouldn't get sucked out, as if you were in an airplane at 30,000 feet.
