Singapore Hop On, Hop Off Bus, has anyone used this?

We are going on the 3/29/10 Beijing to Bangkok Diamond Princess cruise.:) I read on the internet that Singapore has a Hop On, Hop Off tour bus. We arrive in the port at 7 am and depart at 4 pm.

Has anyone used the Singapore Hop On, Hop Off Bus? How do you get to it from the port? Is it even a possibility? I sent their web site this question and received a reply to look at their map for stops. It does not look like any of their stops are near the port.

Thank you for you help!

We were on the Diamond on its recent trip down from Bangkok to Sydney and we also had a day in Singapore.

Diamond docks, because of its size, in the huge container port, and from there you are shuttled into Orchard Road. The store they used was just around the corner in Scotts Road, a DFS (Duty Free) store , and this seemed to be used as their Singapore terminal as folk who where joining the ship , reported here as well..

There were heaps of Taxis waiting outside and just across the road, once you work out which underpass to use is the Metro Station , so it is a very handy and central location.

Of course having said that , thats what they used for our stop, but I have spoken to others who have said they used that store as well, so one would assume they use it for all cruises, but if not , they will certainly arrange transport in to a central location, as not even taxis are permitted into the container port.

Hope that helps in locating the HoHo stops for you.

You lucky people! We did the Beijing to Bangkok cruise on the Diamond in October '08 and it was wonderful. Kiwi Kruzer is correct re the container port. This is one of the largest container ports in the world and you are not allowed to walk through it to get to the gates ( a very, very long way from where the ship docks) nor are taxis allowed into the port. If you do not want to take a Princess excursion ( I wouldn't recommend it as it was the only excursion we felt was an absolute waste of money) then Princess runs a free shuttle bus that will take you from the ship to Orchard Street which is the main shopping area. Not sure re the Ho-Ho bus but when you are getting the shuttle back to the ship make sure you give yourselves plenty of time as we were told that the queues were very long. Enjoy your cruise.

Hi.

Haven't done the cruise, but stopped off in Singapore on the way to Oz. The Ho-Ho bus's main terminal is in Orchard Street, and it is well worth doing, especially as you have so much time. They give you a commentary and you get to see most of Singapore. Our guide was fantastic and you really felt as if you understood the culture by the time you got off. We just went round and then decided where we wanted to get off. The Botanical Gardens were lovely there.

Hope you have a great time.

I was able to download a map of the HOHO bus route from the site. It's very good value by the look of it.

Can you post the link? Thanks.

How do you get to the bus from the airport? We have to take luggage to the airport first (probably by subway) and than go back into town.

Jade,

Here is a link to the HOHO page. Click on the orange "View Pick-up Locations/Map" button. http://www.viator.com/tours/Singapore/Singapore-City-Hop-on-Hop-off-Tour/d18-2065SIN

We spent one day in Singapore as part of our Princess cruise and had planned to do the HOHO bus, but then decided it would be too hard to catch. We wound up walking the whole city and taking the metro (from Little India to Arab Street to Raffles Hotel to Clark Quay to Chinatown) which was much more convenient. We only saw one HOHO bus on the streets the whole time, and that was on Orchard Road. You may want to have a backup plan in case the buses don't come on time and you don't want to waste valuable time just waiting for the bus. The other problem we had is that the buses didn't start running until 9:30am and we disembarked the ship at 7:45am.
