I found a new way to "save" for a cruise

Recommended Posts

We started saving our change about a month or so ago and we already collected about $300.00!! Since i have no credit cards expect for the sharecheck visa card through my bank I just leave in the account what I use to pay bills with then withdraw the rest in cash to do grocery shopping and what not spending at the end of the day I take any 1s and change across the street to momma and we have a huge pickle jar it all goes in. Then when we turn in all of our cans before going we will sit down and split the money for spending. I take that back I have a prepaid visa card strictly for cruising for my sns!!

  • 2 weeks later...

Momma and I save our change then every now and again when the urge strikes to see how much we have saved, we pull the jar out empty it on the table and put all the dollar bills aside and seperate the coin demoninations and then roll them. We took it to her bank and I know my credit union will deposit it or convert it to larger bills for free. Towards the end of the month my ex (yes we are still friends and his mom is Momma) is taking in the cans that we have been getting from neighbors and coworkers and just gathering up on the side of the road for recycling I cant wait to see how much we will be getting. We have 18 bags of the contractor bags full of cans. That money then will be added to our change jar. Our change jar is one of the huge pickle jars. I have also started having $40.00 a month (20.00 a pay period) direct depoist into my cruise fund that I have set up by my credit union whats great about that is that you can pick your maturity date from 3months up to 5years.

You know how a lot of Friday nights people either go out for dinner or order in? Well once per month stay home instead and whatever you would have spent (take the average of the last three weeks) save that into your cruise account. You won't begrudge the night and then have something fun and easy like breakfast for dinner that night.

My DH and I have decided to add this to our cruise saving tips!! Thanks!!

I've used the Future Cruise Voucher program to save on on board charges.

Its a great program, when your on your cruise, put a deposit down ($100.00) which will used towards your next cruise. Depending on the length of your next cruise you'll get a on board credit.

example. 7 day cruise is a $100 credit, 4 day cruise is $50

FLG8RGRL,

When your on-board your next cruise, go to the Loyalty & Cruise Experts Desk. They will set you up with your future vacations Certificate. Its just a $100 deposit toward your next cruise. Then you'll have two years to pick your sail date and destination, and you'll get an onboard credit of up to $200 on your next cruise. Sometimes they will give you free souvenirs like hats/bags/cups.. last time they gave me a free coupon for $5 for the casino.

What cruise line only gives you 2 years to decide? I know Royal has no expiry date (and neither did the Celebrity one I bought on Royal) and Princess gives you five years.

LoveCruising, I like to plan as early as possible then get my requests in just after the first of the year to take the time off. I did that with this cruise in Oct. I put in for it back in Jan. The only one I may have an issue with and I hope not is the Dec. cruise as its a busy time of the year but that week should be slowwww as its the first part of Dec.

Been saving my 1's and 5's for the last few weeks and I already have over 100.00. Haven't cashed in my change cup yet but I'm guessing there's about $30.00 in it. Takes care of tips and coffee :).

This is a great tip!! We save all our $1's and $5's at the end of a week...I've got a huge milk jug that everything goes into and just before the cruise, we'll cash it all in.....

Momma and I have close to 200.00 in ones and change and that doesnt include our alumumin cans we are collecting those still have to be taken in. We have 24 contractor bags full of cans. Last I heard it was .60 a pound hopefully it goes up when we take them in. We always call first though before we go in.

Hey Porthopper

Not a problem I start and new subject in the middle of a subject with no inkling of a switch lol... Yes I did an no I was not happy I should have gotten back up to PA packed all my ok my few worldly possesions and moved right back home to Fl.

No my exboyfriend was suppose to be home in time to take me to the airport the night before the cruise i was gonna stay the night as his brothers house in Ft. Lauderdale and then his g/f was gonna take me to the peir. he made it home and took a shower and this whole time I am like hurry up we gotta drive to Dulles. We get their and I could catch the flight but my clothes wouldnt make it on the same flight. There was no other flight I could get that night. So stayed in the area made it to the airport got an early flight morning of the cruise flew down could only get as close as Miami of course mom and her best friend were going on the cruise and they drove down from St. Augustine but I didnt have Sharons cellphone number to call her and ask her to pick me up in Miami. And me not being fond of Miami to begin with I was not taking a taxi lord only knows how much they would have charged for that. The brother when I called him that morning was in Boyton Beach. But I also learned the 7Ps of life Proper Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance and have lived by that every since. LOL Thanks for listening hahah...How many more days????

Thanks,

Caroline

A lot of the Dollar type Stores are selling out of their summer items in place of Fall merchandise. If you can find the blow-up child's arm water wiggles, they are great to blow-up and put around wine and liqour bottles, if you will be putting these in your checked luggage. Also works great for putting them on your wine bottles to carry-on the ship.

Our local Dollar store had them on season sell out for .50 for a set of 2.

Score !!!! :D
