bpgolferguy Posted February 10, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 10, 2010 Hi! First post, first cruise! Yay! We are going on the 7 day Carnival cruise on the Conquest leaving Galveston on April 11th for our honeymoon!!! What we're planning on doing is leaving here (KS) on Saturday morning and arriving in the late afternoon in Galveston. Then we will stay the night and leave on the ship Sunday. First off, does anyone know of any good hotels in the area? I would like clean, safe, and fun. But also, I need them to have cruise parking since we will be leaving the car until the next Sunday. Any suggestions?? Thanks so much!
firefly333 Posted February 10, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 10, 2010 If you go to gulf port departures, there are lots of hotels mentioned. Galveston is a pretty safe and clean city, so I dont worry about any of the hotels. Harbor House is right next to the port and is historical. Hotel Galvez is owned by the same. Holiday Inn has a free shuttle, which few do, almost all hotels have free cruise parking, Iv yet to find one that doesnt. We stayed at Quality Inn and Suites Beachfront, but didnt bother to use their cruise parking since it was only a 5 day Ecstasy and we could park for $30 (i.e. a taxi both ways would have cost just about the same, so we didnt bother using their free parking). EZCruise is $50 for a 7 day cruise and they shuttle you right to the door, so dont base your hotel only on parking and a shuttle.
*Mach* Posted February 10, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 10, 2010 Welcome to Cruise Critic!!! You can find a ton of information at our Gulf Coast Departures board: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=414 There are a number of places that offer parking for cruise ship passengers... the Hilton, the Days Inn, Holiday Inn all come to mind. A quick search at the Departures board will turn up a wealth of information. Congratulations on your choice of the Conquest for your first voyage. She is a beautiful ship with a great staff. You'll love it! :)

Any suggestions?? Thanks so much! I haven't cruised out of Galveston in a couple of years (June, 2008 I believe was the last time), but I stayed at the La Quinta on the far west side of the island, and they let me park for free while I was gone, plus had a shuttle to/from the pier. I believe the shuttle charge was $10 per room (not per person, per ROOM. We had 3 people in our room, and the charge was $10). The hotel is about a 10-15 minute ride to the pier, so it's not bad. Of course, things may have changed in two years, but I'd give them a call and see what they tell you. Have fun on the Conquest!
luving2cruise Posted February 10, 2010 #5 Share Posted February 10, 2010 The Commodore on the Beach! Stay there all the time nothing fancy but nice and right on the beach!
cardinalfan Posted February 10, 2010 #6 Share Posted February 10, 2010 This Holiday Inn has free shuttle to the pier and back plus will let you park for free. The lady who takes you to the pier is wonderful and is generally waiting for you when you get off the ship.
KOOLBEANS Posted February 10, 2010 #7 Share Posted February 10, 2010 My first choice is always Quality Inn and Suites, good price, always clean and friendly, nice rooms with balconies and comfortable beds, free parking. They also have a indoor heated pool and hot tub. Ask away if you have any ?'s bout it. Usually if you go to choicehotels dot com it typically runs 10.00 cheaper. lacajungirl Posted February 11, 2010 #8 Share Posted February 11, 2010 We are going on the Conquest in May. We are booked at the Beachcomber Inn. Good rates and nice rooms. We booked through Galveston.com. for our hotel. The site has lots of info on hotels and attractions.

Plus its across from the beach if you want to walk the beach. We enjoyed it. One other plus, it has a free computer for use by hotel guests, not just wifi, but a actual computer in the lobby. Iv also stayed at the Howard Johnson's not fancy, but you can park for free and for $5 pp ride the shuttle from discount parking across the street, but its not on the beach so I only stayed there once. only ok. truchattycathy Posted February 11, 2010 #10 Share Posted February 11, 2010 We like the Holiday Inn on the sea wall boulevard. They have free cruise parking (in a private lot) and offer a free shuttle to and from the pier. They know exactly when your ship gets in, or if it is late. The rooms are clean and the beach is across the street. If we drive down the day of, we park at Lighthouse parking. Cheaper than the terminal parking and as it turns out closer. They shuttle you to the pier and will be there waiting to pick you up when you get back. Last time we drove down we were running late and just thought we would park at the pier, and they sent us so far away that we turned around and went to Lighthouse anyway, because it was so much closer. I have stayed at Beachcomber Inn and was not impressed. The free parking is just a few spaces of parallel parking along the fence between them and the gas station next door. Laca, I hope you have better luck than we did.
TXHillbillyGirl Posted February 14, 2010 #11 Share Posted February 14, 2010 We (my family) are taking our first cruise out of Galveston in March...(SOON!) We are staying the night before at Harbor House. We booked last night on line and it was only $89 + tax for two double beds. They are within walking distance to the pier and have free cruise parking, though parking while at the hotel is $10 a day/night. (Weird) They also have a free Cont. Breakfast, WiFI, HBO/Showtime, Micro/Fridge/CoffeePot... all of the usuall adminities. AND AN IRON!! Whoo Hoo! You also have "signing privlages" at certain restuarants and the Hotel Galvez ...oh and swimming privlages at the Galvez too and it's a nice pool/hot tub/swim-up bar. And all of the rooms at Harbor House have a view of the harbor. You can accually see the ship come in that morning. I may be rambling, but I'm getting excited. This is my thought on it... Have a great Cruise!
islasisterchick Posted February 16, 2010 #12 Share Posted February 16, 2010 I called and checked with tremont house and they said that if I paid $16.46 including taxes for the first nights valet parking and stayed there that I could park in the security gated and locked garage at the Galvez for free during my cruise with a free shuttle. Then I went to priceline and bid $78 for a 3 1/2 star in the east beach area and got the tremont house. So for $123.50 including taxes and valet parking, I am staying a very nice hotel right across from the port and a weeks secure parking and shuttle. Can't beat that! Now I can afford to eat at Rudy and Pacos for dinner and talk to Paco and have fantastic seafood with a Latin flair.
TXHillbillyGirl Posted February 16, 2010 #13 Share Posted February 16, 2010 You go Girl! Good deals make good things even better!! We will be at the Harbor House. The kids are stoked about watching the ship! Have Fun!

I've stayed at The Harbor House before and wanted to be sure you understood that although all the rooms have harbor views, only the rooms on the west side can actually see the cruise ships when they are in port. Have a great cruise!
truchattycathy Posted April 8, 2010 #15 Share Posted April 8, 2010 Hi! First post, first cruise! Yay! Any suggestions?? Thanks so much! I love the Holiday Inn on Seawall Boulevard. (the one next door to the San Luis) It is not expensive and they offer free parking to cruisers. They have a shuttle that takes you to and from the cruise terminal. Just the nicest people. If you book another hotel that does not offer parking, I suggest Lighthouse parking. They are not as expensive as the terminal and they take you from their lot (2 blocks from the terminal) to the terminal and drop you and your luggage off. And then they will be there to pick you up after the cruise. Last time I drove straight down and did not stay the nite. I was just going to park at the terminal. They sent me on goose chase to park and I ended up way far from the terminal. I just turned around and went to Lighthouse and parked much closer and it was so easy. We did stay at the Beachcomber Inn once. I just cannot say anything good about it.

texas greeneyes Posted April 11, 2010 #21 Share Posted April 11, 2010 Do you know if any of these hotels have covered parking???? Off the top of my head, though there are several that do, many if not most Galveston hotels do not offer covered cruise parking. That being said, my list is now about two months old; I will see if I can make time this week to get updated information, including more specific details regarding parking.
