sw18 Posted February 10, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 10, 2010 Has anyone got useful tips for boarding at Southampton? Re HOTELS, RAIL LINKS CAR PARKING ETC. It depends which terminal you are leaving from, but from Southampton Central to the City or Mayflower Terminal for example should only be around £6-£7, a little more for the QE2 & Ocean Terminals. Trains from London run every 30 minutes off peak & if coming from London a 1st Class off peak return is around £48, with Standard £32 or therabouts. The trains will get busy if Independence of the Seas, QM2 or Ventura are in town, so 1st Class is worth the small supplement. Check your terminal & which other ships are in town here http://www.southamptonvts.co.uk/cruise_ship.asp ABP also do parking at the port... http://www.abparking.co.uk/ but Silversea aren't listed (possibly as there are only a few S'oton sailings), other options include a nights pre cruise stay at somewhere like the De Vere, or Hilton, which offer 2 weeks parking & a nights accomodation for just a little more than the parking alone with ABP. There are other "remote" car parks for less located off port, but then you have the hassle of shuttle buses.
sw18 Posted February 10, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 10, 2010 Forgot to mention there is also an hourly train on Southern Trains direct from Gatwick Airport & Cross Country from Birmingham & further north. If there are any large ships sailing the same day the Cross Country train will be very busy with limited bag space, even in First Class as they are only a very short 4 coaches. :)

sw18 Posted February 12, 2010 #5 Share Posted February 12, 2010 Forgot to mention that the last time we sailed from S'oton on the Cloud, they used the City Cruise Terminal/Berth 101, but you circumvented most of the terminal. There was a steward waiting at the kerb who directed you straight to security, with other staff & on to the ship, as with smaller ports - the City Terminal is normally used by Independence of the Seas & her 4000 odd passengers, so there is an element of being whisked through side doors like VIPs......as it should be!!
