Any Balcony Better than None?

John&John

We just upgraded to a balcony guarantee. This will be our first balcony.:D

Are there any really bad balcony staterooms?

I don't like the uncertainty of a guarantee, but at this rate it may be the only chance I get for a balcony.

It was only $569 pp.

It depends on which ship you are on.

I would take any balcony and great price! I will be getting on the Glory the day you get back, I am praying for an upsell call at that price... did you call them or did they call you?? Enjoy your balcony!

The past guest price was lower today and the senior prices are really nice - I called. ( I don't quite qualify for this rate but I'm with an slightly older person  !)

Glory

I was on the Glory in April 2006. The forward cabins on deck six (upper) are over the casino and the main lounge. The port side cabins just forward of the aft elevator bank are over the disco. All of these are noise producers.

The aft half of deck eight (verandah) is under the pool deck. The crew drags the deck chairs out early in the morning.

Those are the only balcony issues that I know about.

I've had a balcony several times (all guarantees) and haven't had a bad one yet. That being said, you got a tremendous price and don't blame you for taking the upgrade. IMHO, balconies are basically a personal perference. As a general rule, the balcony is priced significantly higher than either the oceanview or inside staterooms and we just don't use the balcony enough to justify the additional expense. We normally book an inside stateroom and use the left over money for other perks. But, if the price was close and I got a sweet deal, I wouldn't hesitate to upgrade!

Happy Sails!

Thanks. I think it is better that I booked it first and then asked the question. ;)

We loved our cabin under the lido deck.... quick access to all the action! We never had any problem with noise.

That being said if possible I do try to book my cabin such that it is between passenger decks... but this is out of fear of what other cruisers have mentioned (loud casino, theatre/lounge or disco noise into the night) more so than personal experience.

I would be more worried about that than noise from the lido deck.

We started to book a guarantee online last week. We had some questions befor we finalized the process so we called the agency. The agent called Carnival which said the mega-cheap balconies were obstructed views (life boats) on our cruise. She told them we were past guests of Carnival so they gave us an upgrade for the same guarantee price. We were pleased.

If you are a past Carnival guest make sure to let them know.

Thanks - good to know. The Glory doesn't seem to have any obstructed balconies. :D

Any under the lido deck sucks.....

I am thinking your comment is because of noise and dragging chairs, etc.

We've already been assigned a balcony :D cabin on the Lido (of course) and it's under the area near the grille on the Lido. If I remember correctly this is a passageway

I think it will work out fine! ;)

The OP is on the Glory. The Glory does not have any cat 7 (balcony doors opening to a view of the lifeboats) cabins.

This is the Glory ...

The Spirit class ships have the cat 7 cabins ...

Rooms under the lido deck midship and aft can be bad. This is because of the

chairs being moved and crew cleaning at 3AM etc.

Rooms under forward are fine because they are under other rooms.

Also rooms under they gym (level 9)are not the best. As you can get the

treadmills under the most forward rooms.

Otherwise they are all good rooms.

We just upgrade to a Balcony rooms this week at end up paying 550 for 8D.

I would love to hear how the ship is after you return as it comes out of dry doc this next week.

Yes there are bad balcony cabins, just like there are bad non balcony cabins.

Which are bad? Who knows? Cabins that you like because of location, I might hate, and vice versa. A lot of people love aft cabins, especially balconies, I don't I do not want any cabin near the back of the ship for any reason. That is just me, so if I got one of the "coveted" aft balconies, I would be very unhappy, while a lot of people would jump for joy.

So what is good and what is bad? Who know?
