scott mencer Posted February 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 13, 2010 Just got back from the Grand Princess and it was the best cruise my wife and I have ever been on. After spending 10 years with your company we're switching.

mtchg Posted February 13, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 13, 2010 It would be more helpful to give some comparative reasons on your decision. As it stands this looks like a post meant to slam and not educate; so be prepared to be slammed likewise. Mitch
TEXASMUNK Posted February 13, 2010 #4 Share Posted February 13, 2010 We have sailed on both lines. Your vanilla, nothing special product leads us to one conclusion, we will cruise RCI.

bigeagle12 Posted February 13, 2010 #7 Share Posted February 13, 2010 We did our first Princess cruise last year on the Caribbean Princess and doing another in 2 weeks on the Emerald. We still prefer Royal and the Voyager class ships. Why does everyone think that one cruise line always has to be the best and bad mouth the rest??? Here is just a quick comparision (our opinion) of the 2: Embarkation - equal Disembarkation - advantage Princess Mustard Drill - adavantage Princess Food - slight advantage to Princess - little better quality and more variety Dining Room (service) - equal Dining Room (decor) - advantage Royal Cabins - advantage Princess - bigger closet - better layout Entertainment - equal Ship (Promenade vs Atrium) - advantage Royal Casino - advantage Royal Service (Dining Room) - equal Service (Windjammer vs Caribe) - advantage Royal Service (cabin) - equal Johnny Rockets vs Trident Grill - advantage Trident (free) Movies Under the Stars (MUTS) - advantage Princess Promenade Cafe vs International Cafe - advantage Princess Pizza - advantage Princess Bars/Lounges - advantage Princess Onboard Activities - advantage Royal

Desert Cruizers Posted February 13, 2010 #12 Share Posted February 13, 2010 We have sailed both and enjoy both for what each offer. For overall cruising, we do prefer RCL though. The differances that we have noted during Muster Drill, on Princess you go to a designated lounge or theater, they instruct you how to put on your Life jackets, then when you have finished putting yours on, your free to leave. madforcruising Posted February 13, 2010 #13 Share Posted February 13, 2010 My first Princess cruise was last year as well on the Crown Princess and I´m booked on another one this year, as well as another RCI one. I think they both offer a very good product. I´ll add my view to your comparison, as I differ in a couple areas We did our first Princess cruise last year on the Caribbean Princess and doing another in 2 weeks on the Emerald. We still prefer Royal and the Voyager class ships. Why does everyone think that one cruise line always has to be the best and bad mouth the rest??? Here is just a quick comparision (our opinion) of the 2: Embarkation - equal agree Disembarkation - advantage Princess I´d say equal Mustard Drill - adavantage Princess Mustard drill clearly goes to the Mustard of the Seas, Muster Drill advantage RCI Food - slight advantage to Princess - little better quality and more variety agree with Princess about better quality, but variety to me goes to RCI Dining Room (service) - equal advantage RCI, though that might be due to the fact I always had traditional with RCI and Anytime on Prin. Dining Room (decor) - advantage Royal agree Cabins - advantage Princess - bigger closet - better layout absoultely advantage Royal, much bigger cabins on Royal and way better layout Entertainment - equal agree Ship (Promenade vs Atrium) - advantage Royal agree Casino - advantage Royal equal Service (Dining Room) - equal answered above Service (Windjammer vs Caribe) - advantage Royal Service I thought was way better in Caribe vs. WJ, however set up, variety and quality of food goes clearly to WJ Service (cabin) - equal agree Johnny Rockets vs Trident Grill - advantage Trident (free) Never used JR Movies Under the Stars (MUTS) - advantage Princess advantage RCI for not having the blaring screen Promenade Cafe vs International Cafe - advantage Princess equal Pizza - advantage Princess agree Bars/Lounges - advantage Princess equal Onboard Activities - advantage Royal agree Both lines have their pros and cons and I´m looking forward to cruise both in the future. One big advantage of Princess to me at this point is they have the more varied and interesting itineraries.
monn_a Posted February 13, 2010 #14 Share Posted February 13, 2010 I don't get why anyone would make such an announcement on CC (in any forum)...OP isn't the first one. I love RC but I've also enjoyed sailing on Celebrity, NCL and Princess....Carnival not so much but that's just MHO. I read the threads all the time and don't get why people come here to bash...I thought these forums were for honest help...I stopped posting regularly a year ago because it was such a hassle...I just had to speak up today though...if you want to leave a cruise line leave...no fan fare necessary... Silvery Seas Cruiser Posted February 13, 2010 #15 Share Posted February 13, 2010 The OP's post and disaffection with Royal would have more credibility if he would say exactly why he prefers Princess. Also, he could explain which Princess ships he has sailed and which Royal ships he has sailed. Often different ships within the same cruise line can make a difference in one's impressions. Cruising89143 Posted February 13, 2010 #17 Share Posted February 13, 2010 I don't look at his post as bashing. It would be nice if he would have given some examples of what he liked better on Princess. I cruised Carnival for many years and then cruised on the Navigator OTS. Never looked back at Carnival. I found that RCI gave me more of what I liked about cruising. Maybe the OP found the same thing.

Desert Cruizers Posted February 13, 2010 #19 Share Posted February 13, 2010 If we were to have an issue with one particular cruise, I would fault that ship or crew member, not the intire line. With so many ships and cruise lines, we are dealing with individuals. If we meet a rude crew member, then it is that one person who affected us and not the cruise lines or ship. Well, something made the OP book another line, for whatever the reason. It may not have been that he was running AWAY from RCCL (or not.....love those double negatives), but something in comparison has made him to not want to come back. I wish he comes back HERE and tells us. :)
MrsPete Posted February 13, 2010 #21 Share Posted February 13, 2010 I'm thinking we're going to try Princess next time. I think we'd like the Sanctuary and the Chef's Table. I'd love to hear details and comparisons to Royal Carribean -- but I'm not interested in statements of opinion with no reasoning behind them. PrincesScuba Posted February 13, 2010 #23 Share Posted February 13, 2010 He's a man of few words. Here's the thread he started on the Princess board: Just got back from being on the Grand Princess for 2 weeks and it was an excellent trip. Probably the best cruise my wife and I been on. After 10 years on Royal Carribean, Princess has won our business. To which one Princess poster replied: That's wonderful news. Please write a review - there have been poor reviews of the Grand on CC - we were beginning to think we had made a mistake. I am amused. ;)

rogicoco Posted February 13, 2010 #25 Share Posted February 13, 2010 I guess to each is own. we sailed princess 4 times. Dawn princess in 1997 was wonderful but that's when P&O still owned them but the rest of the cruises that took place on grand and caribbean princess were not so great especially the last year one on caribbean princess was the worst ever. So for us after sailing many cruiselines such as cunard, princess, ncl, celebrity and holland america we will never leave rcl and celebrity because to us we love them the most. So Scott if you now love Princess good luck to you and enjoy.
