Some questions (general) but also kinda specific to the Epic.

Sorry to ask some questions, but I've seen answers to these questions in other threads, but want to see if someone knows answers to these questions in regards to the Epic.

1) Are there irons in each room? Not planning to bring much "fancy stuff", but packing things in a suitcase of course can lead to wrinkles. If there aren't irons in each room, can you bring your own or is this not allowed for fire/safety reasons?

2) On those same lines, are there hairdryers in the bathrooms? If not, I would assume it is ok to bring one?

3) I have heard on other ships there is a smoking/non-smoking side of the ship. Is this true on Epic? Any idea which side is smoking and which is not (if they designate it this way)?

4) I keep reading about people saying to bring a lanyard. What needs to go in this? Any tips or links as to which type of lanyard is best and most convenient?

5) Are there alarm clocks in each cabin? Not that I plan to get up early, but I would like to be able to know what time it is. Should I bring my own small alarm clock?

6) I know the answer most likely is NO, but are there ceiling fans in the cabins? If not, is it ok to bring a small, portable fan or would this vbe confiscated?

Thank you so much in advance for any advice or help!!! :D:D

Probably no irons. Other cruise ships have a laundry room where you can wash & dry clothes and , usually, have an ironing board and iron available.

Don't know about hairdryers, but they probably do have them in the bathrooms. Other ships have them.

Since it is not designated a non-smoking ship, there are probably designated areas, but don't know where on this ship.

Have no idea what a "lanyard" is.

No alarm clocks in the room but, if you need an alarm, you can set your phone to ring you at a specific time.

No ceiling fans in the cabins. Can't answer your question about bringing a small fan. Call your TC and they should be able to tell you.

We bring lanyards for our kids. We have the people at the front desk punch a hole in the corner of their key card and put it on the lanyard. This works out great for them they always have their card. We just keep ours in our pocket.

1) Are there irons in each room? Not planning to bring much "fancy stuff", but packing things in a suitcase of course can lead to wrinkles. If there aren't irons in each room, can you bring your own or is this not allowed for fire/safety reasons? No irons in the room...don't bring one. You are correct on the fire/safety concerns. The ships generally offer pressing service and there is usually an iron available at the front desk for you to borrow.

2) On those same lines, are there hairdryers in the bathrooms? If not, I would assume it is ok to bring one? There are hairdryers in each cabin...no need to bring your own.

3) I have heard on other ships there is a smoking/non-smoking side of the ship. Is this true on Epic? Any idea which side is smoking and which is not (if they designate it this way)? The are designated smoking areas...usually in your own cabin, in the casino, and outside on open air decks.

4) I keep reading about people saying to bring a lanyard. What needs to go in this? Any tips or links as to which type of lanyard is best and most convenient? Lanyards are the cords with a clip on the end that people wear around their neck. Some people like to keep their room card on a lanyard. The front desk will punch a hole in your key card for this purpose.

5) Are there alarm clocks in each cabin? Not that I plan to get up early, but I would like to be able to know what time it is. Should I bring my own small alarm clock? No alarm clocks in the cabin. Wake up service is available. If you bring your own, it should be battery powered, as clocks that must be plugged in don't keep good time....this is because of the ship's elecrical systems.

6) I know the answer most likely is NO, but are there ceiling fans in the cabins? If not, is it ok to bring a small, portable fan or would this vbe confiscated? Correct...no ceiling fans. The portable fan is OK to bring...remember: electrical outlets are limited in number and "stuff" (irons, hairdryers, fans, etc) can end up taking up a LOT of room in your luggage.

Thank you so much in advance for any advice or help!!! :D:D

wow! awesome info! thanks so much!!!!

ok, so in regards to the smoking thing, is it true that say, near the pool there is one side smoking and the other side non-smoking? i am not a smoker so i would prefer to have a pool chair that is not next to someone smoking. do you think the Epic will have the one side of ship smoking, one side of ship non-smoking or do you think folks can smoke on both sides when outdoors?

thanks again!!!!!:D:D:D:D

I've been on many many cruises and have never had a problem with someone smoking right next to me. Usually there are designated areas on the ship where they allow smoking. It's not necessarily one "side" of the ship but specific areas. People will often light up at the bar pool-side when ordering drinks but the wind when at sea can be too much to allow smoking at the pool chairsl. The only place I really notice the smoke is the casino and some of the bars, I am not fond of cigarette smoke and can say that it really isn't bad pool side. Enjoy! :)

yippiee!!!!! that is great news. i really can't stand the smell of cigarettes, so i was hoping the pool area wouldn't be packed with smokers. i know pool chairs on cruises are rather close together, and i just feared i'd be inhaling smoke all day when hanging out by the pool. thanks for easing my mind! :D

It will be either port (left side) or Starboard (right side). You will see tables with ashtray, that is the side to stay away from. I too detest smoke. None right by pool.

my favorite is when a smoker is sitting next to you, and they take a puff then hold the cigarette to the side, away from themselves, and it ends up being 2 inches away from MY face.

so what are everyone's favorite methods for carrying their room key/pass key?

don't really wanna carry around a purse or fanny pack.....is that what folks are saying they use lanyards for?

I always carry my card in my pocket. At the pool I usually have a small bag with sunscreen, book, etc. and if I don't have a pocket I just keep my card in the bag.

I worried about wrinkles on our last cruise and even brought some spray which I never ended up needing. I just would hang things up right away and put it in the bathroom when showering. I also find my expectations are lower on vacation and wrinkles fall out pretty quickly while wearing. :)

I've never needed a lanyard because I either carry it in a pocket (I only bring shorts with pockets) or if I'm wanting to go read by the pool I bring a tiny backpack that I use to carry my book, daily activities, sunscreen, etc.

We just use the phone to wake us up. I think it's like in a hotel where you can set it up for a certain time.

I do bring my own hairdryer if I need one with power because they're usually like the ones in hotels. Probably not this time since we're flying.

I'm somewhat allergic to smoke and haven't really had a problem on any ship so far. I have moved if I pick a chair downwind from a smoker but have always been able to find another spot.
