Are You Willing To Pay More?

Yes... I would pay more to have an open bar :)

Open bar is nice, but what about a FAIR PRICE bar? As in DUTY-FREE PRICE bar?

Not the PRICE-GOUGING bar they have now.

The bars are a huge profit center and they are helping to keep fares lower than they would be if the prices were FAIR, and they were making a fair profit.

I don't think people who don't drink should have to pay extra to cover people who do drink. It's just that the way it is today, drinkers are paying double what they should be paying and that extra amount is paying for lower fares for non-drinkers. That's not fair.

Sure, I understand the "loss leader" concept... lose money on the fare and get them in the door and you'll have ample opportunity to squeeze them for every nickel and dime they have.

Bad business model. Some other line, or maybe Carnival if they are smart, is going to realize this is a bad model and change it, and will get a lot more business.

And no, I don't want to cruise Seabourne or Crystal and have an ultra-luxury experience. I am happy to be on the Greyhound bus of cruising. I just want fair prices. Or else, I am going to have to keep smuggling, reluctantly.

I'd pay for including tips and free soft drinks. I don't drink enough to make the inclusive alcohol drinks worth it. CCL would have massive liability on unlimited alcohol because some cruisers would develop alcohol poisoning or pancreatitus from over drinking so I doubt CCL's legal dept would ever allow it even if every cruiser wanted it. Kids and families create a lot of revenue for CCL which has promoted family cruising with their kids program and swim parks. I just wish people would mind their kids and not let them run wild.

How about a option to purchase an ALL-DRINKS card? Kind of like a soda card!!!

I'd pay handsomely for a 18 and over cruise... full of co-eds.

Nobody is subsidizing anybody, smugglers or non-drinkers... gawd.

I'd perfer a non-smoking boat, but don't mind thoughtful smokers and good ventilated areas. Pay extra, no.

Whatever happened to Skeet Shooting! Damn! I loved doing that off the back.

I'd like to fly a kite off the stern too.

I belive that the drinks both soft drinks and all alcohol drinks are where the cruiselines make their killer profits from, so they are not about to cut their own throats on that end.

I agree though if they would just come up with something to offer the people that do drink, either add a certian amount to the individual cruise fare PP (not the non drinkers), or an alcohol card or something that would equal out to a duty free drink, where people would not fell as though they had the need to smuggle ( and yes I do smuggle also), I belive they would still make a heffty profit and the drinkers wouldn't feel so ripped off with their bar tab.

The question is would you be willing to pay more for your cruise if you were able to have it your way ie: ( if it were an option )

If all drinks were included ( soft drinks, mixed drinks, beer, wine ) so no need to smuggle.

No drinking allowed.

No extra for any tipping.

Adults only no children. (Either or)

All Families with children.

Total non smoking.

Freedom to smoke anywhere you pleased.

Absolutly no complainers allowed to remain onboard the vessel.

No poolside chairhogs.

And anything else you could think of.

I would pay double (or more) if the items in red were included.

Depending on the cost and if it was enforced, I would consider it.

What about a 100% smoke-free cruise including the crew?

I would be MORE than willing to pay more IF:

Drinks were included. I get so TIRED of reading the smuggling boards on here. Geez people your on vacation. Do you go you go out to to eat and BYOB??

The booze prices are no more than what I pay in my neighborhood here in MO except the beer is a little higher. Probably trying to make up for all of the smugglers:rolleyes: Liquor and wine prices are in line with my neighborhood bars.

AND tips included. Call it a service charge or what ever you want but the crew works hard and I want to see them get taken care of. Then the option to "tip" extra is at my discretion.

AND I am sorry but the main reason I cruise Carnival ( aside from the service which is awesome and I did take an RCI cruise in 2008  is their smoking policy. I am a CONSIDERATE smoker. I smoke where allowed. I realize some fellow cruisers do not have enough class to follow the policy which makes it hard on us that do. However, what really irks me is someone coming in to a smoking section and start the "fanning " with the hands. DON'T come into the smoking section!

Just my thoughts.

I am not a big drinker. I am lucky if I have a drink every 6 months. I would not be happy if Carnival raised the rates to stop smuggling booze and allow people to bring on booze....Doesn't seem quite fair..

So it's fair for the drinkers to subsidize your cruise cost? That makes zero sense.

Why are people so short sighted and their only argument is "do you go out to eat and BYOB -duh!" It's just so insulting.

You are LIVING on the ship for a certain number of days - sure I don't believe you should be able to brown bag the bars, the casino, or the dining room, but you should be able to enjoy things you brought with you in your hotel room. No hotel bars you from doing this or xrays/searches your bags when you enter. (Unless there is some national law prohibiting this - ala Middle East) I'm sure those hotels would rather you order room service drinks or go down to the bar, but they aren't forcing you to smuggle in order to enjoy something in your room! Crusining isn't only about eating!

It makes as much sense as the non-drinkers subsidizing the cruise costs of the boozers.

Here's the thing though - don't let anyone bring any beverage on board and charge $3 for sodas and $6 for water and you'd be close to fair. Right now people can bring on as much soda/water as they want. That's unfair.

When we did Europe a River Cruise with my parents and the south pacific it was all inclusive..It cost more but no tipping (of course you can add more) all drinks etc..once you paid your fare you were done other than port excursions..The service was 5 star..and no worries..

The best part is we can talk about something else...I see more threads on this board regarding tipping and drinking it is like beating a..well you know the rest...lisa

I would pay more for an all inclusive (drinks) option! Im not a big drinker but DH and friends ARE so we pay a lot there.

No extra for any tipping. wouldnt that even out?

Adults only no children. children dont bug me, we dont go at normal family vacation times

Total non smoking. As for the smoking, i dont smoke and i dont like the smell but not enough to make me pay more.

No poolside chairhogs. Nah we usually can find a spot to sun, it doesnt need to be poolside.

And anything else you could think of. Theres not much more id pay more for....

p.s. good post!

No.......especially for all inclusive drinks.....I think they should just be fair to all passengers........if they won't let people bring booze on then they should also not let people bring any kind of drinks including non alcoholic drinks.......that way the people that don't drink alcohol will have to actually buy their drinks also......then everyone would be adding to the cruiselines profit;)

Drinks are not the only overpriced item. Spa treatments, photos, jewelry, excusions, bingo etc all cost more on the ship. These also help the bottom line of the cruiselines. Gamblers also donate money to the profits.

Years ago, chairs were reseved - you paid for your lounge chair and cushion.

If you owned the ship, would you let people bring cases of booze on board. A resonable amount would be a compromise, but reasonable is debatable. I drink beer. I do not bring any on board with me and I pay the high price. That is my choice - I guess I subsidize the drinkers and non-drinkers.

Don't give Carnival any ideas. Before you know it we'll all be rowing.

But, hey, the worst day cruising...

Celebrity is now offering a drink package per night. I have posted the link in a couple of threads but maybe I should make a new thread. It's a pretty good deal:

Why do people think everything should change for them ? If you don't like the way things are now don't cruise. The only thing that should change is the WHINING.

Amen to that. The cold hard truth is that in the free market you vote with your wallet. Carnival, or any company for that matter, will continue a strategy that makes money as long as customers continue to buy their product. Many customers will say "I'd pay more for this or that", but when it comes down to it they will shop based on lowest price.

You see the exact same market forces at play in the airline industry.
