Curious about the casino...

i won 750 on quarter slots on Seranade in Januray of 2005. It was rather a fluke-it was a wheel of fortune machine and i spun maybe 10 times-i was killing time waiting for hubby to finish at the BJ tables.

My father -a consumate BlackJack player won enough over the course of a week in 2007 on the NCL Star in Alaska to cover the cost of gas, hotel and meals for a two day each way drive to the port (from northwest wyoming) the cost of the cruise, their excursions and ship board account and come home with 500 more in his pocket than when he left-and that was not a fluke-it was a regular occurrance-ive only know him to walk away out money a handful of times.

To all SLOT winners:

If you remember which night did you win?

My personal opinion is that you win more earlier in the cruise than later!

And, yes it is possible for the cruise lines to change the payouts.

Your personal opinion is not correct. The slots are factory set and there is almost nothing the cruise lines can do about it. having worked in the casino industry and knowing many people who have worked for IGT, and also having many friends who have served as slot repair on both RCI and carnival. I can say for 100% that the cruise lines do not go around changing the payout rates near the end of a cruise.

I saw a first time gambler win the bonus on Caribbean Stud poker--Royal Flush. She was sitting right next too, it was probably about her 5th hand in. I cant remember what the total payout was, but it was pretty damn nice, i do remember that.

Just wondering --- has anyone ever won (or saw someone win) anything noteworthy in the casino???? On our recent Serenade cruise, I did the free pulls using the coupon in the C&A book and didn't ever land on anything despite 6 pulls (mine and my husbands). Also did the match play, but as to be expected, the house won!!!!

Once won the progressive on a nickle machine after only having about $2 in. Winnings of $750 and on quarter poker once -- got the royal on joker poker -- with winnings of $1400. Again, only after investing a couple dollars.

Don't get me wrong, they are way ahead but fun to win and entertaining even when we lost...as expected.

In April 2005 on the Grandeur, I won 33,710 nickels ($1685.50) on Double Diamond 2000 - spent 90 cents (9 lines, 10 cents per line). Wasn't even on a bonus.

Best part was that there were no taxes taken out, and I was paid in cash by hundreds. Made me feel like I was on a game show! :)

SWEET!!!

I've never had any big luck. Usually I'm thankful if I can get some good play for a while. If figure the money is my 'entertainment' money so I don't expect it back. But I don't play big either.

On our last cruise a lady won $20,000 on a slot machine. She was paid off in hundred dollar bills. Yes it was $20,000. I would like to win at least something once in a while. D.H. does match play and wins ocassionally.

Can kids go into the Casino area? Not to play - just to watch? We'll have our teenager, won't let him play but he'd prob like to watch. We're small-time might just go in a few times to play for a bit - nothing hardcore or for very long.

Hubby and I enjoy the casino tremendously when we cruise! The last cruise I took on the Emerald Princess, I won $800 (net) by the end of the week. I won $400 on the Wheel of Fortune slot machine and the rest I won playing roulette. I rarely play slots, but it seemed like on Princess, people were winning decent amounts of money on the slot machines. Most cruises I have won at least one of our cruise fares back by playing roulette....but you have to be a 'smart' table player. Play while you are winning and if you haven't won in 2-3 spins/hands, cash out and leave for awhile. I've watched people win decent amounts and then keep playing and lost it all....silly!

Factory set....so this means that a particular machine will pay out at exactly the same percentage, no matter which casino it's in? I find this very difficult to believe. I'm not saying that the crew goes around changing things during each cruise but I'm sure that machines are set by cruise employees prior to being installed on the ship.

My personal experience (tho I don't have empirical data to back it up) is that machines are generally looser (ie pay out at a higher rate) when there is competition for the betting dollar (ie more than one casino competing in the general vicinity). When on the ship they have you by the short hairs (so to speak) so there's no reason for a high payout rate.

On my first RCCL cruise in 2004, I won $300 on a quarter slots machine. Since then, I have had no luck on land or water. Last month we went on a Carnival cruise and I couldn't win anything to save my life. I have a strict $40/day to spend rule -- no more, no less. We just got off of the Mariner and my luck certainly changed. Day 2 I won $112 on my last 3 quarters that I put in. Took my money and left. Day 4 I had just started playing and put 5 quarters in and won $805. Day 6 I won another $120. I was pleasantly surprised and pleased. I quickly put that money away as it will help pay for another cruise!

That's why it is called GAMBLING! You are not guarenteed to win anything. And yes I have won several thousand playing the table games.:)

I came in 4th in a poker touney on one cruise. I won a tshirt and $150 if I remember correctly. However, I paid $100 to enter tourney so I guess I won $50 and a tshirt (one size fits all, so really more of a night shirt) and lost about 4 hours of cruise time! Oh well, it was fun being the only girl at the final table!:p

On our recent trip on the Grandeur, my DW and I were playing quarter slots, and having no luck. I deceided to walk just behind her and play the dollar machines. After the second pull for my $20, i won $1200.. The attendant came over to congratulate me and said wait right here(not that I was going to move). When a little old man came up to me and said, "I put $500 into that machine earlier in the evening" I think he wanted me to pay him back...I politely told him to get lost. At the same time a young lady came by with 12 $100 bills..and placed them in my hand....First time in 15 cruises that I won anything

Wow, that's exciting. I hope your luck rubs off on me on my next cruise!
