horse racing going rate for horses

I surrender dear! Is someone attempting to pull our respective chains?

No, no, it's really a thing. You used to be able to buy a wooden horse and decorate it and there was a race with bets laid -- all very fun. I haven't seen it aboard any ship myself since -- well, a long time ago -- maybe the Pacific Princess in 2001?

Not sure how many years you have sailed on Princess, but horseracing used to be a big thing onboard. Lately it seems to be hit and miss and for a few years they stopped it completely.

I haven't seen horse racing on any ship since the late 90's. It used to be THE thing! We used to make outfits ahead of time and bring them with us. The horses were auctioned off at the beginning of the cruise. And then there was always the threat of horse-napping, so we brought them to dinner (formally attired) and made beds for them in our cabin. On Celebrity, the final racing event (kind of like Bingo - spin the wheel to determine how many paces your horse could move), this was held on the stern...and you could see the skeet shooters! Aaaaah! The good old days!

Haven't seen the horses for awhile. Buying, owning, promoting, and adorning our group horse was one of the most fun things we have done on a cruise. We recruited followers all over the ship and and there was a great turnout on race day. Took that dressed up wooden horse everywhere we went on the ship. Last time was on the Golden 3 years ago.

We had it 18 months ago on the Sun Princess but when on the Dawn last year I mentioned it to the CD and she said that they would not do it any more as there was not enough interest in actually backing the horses and they were not wasting casino members time when there was no profit to speak of:( Shame it was a fun event particularly if we had it every day culminating in purchasing your own horse.

they had horse racing on our cruise last fall on the Star.

6 wooden horses, get to name them and they ask for people to go up on the stage and be jockey's

Then you can bet on what horse you think is going to win

place your bets

and then they put dice in a cage and roll the cage and the horses move the number of spaces on the dice.

It's a lot of fun if people participate

We are cruising on Caribbean Princess in May.....and were hoping for the horses....we won 1 in 2003 on our 25th anniversary cruise and it was so much fun! We dressed it and took it all around....everyone talked to us.......and the night of the final race we sat at the winner's circle with champagne (from Princess!) ....we had to tell a history and tell of our ownership....it was so much fun!!

They still have horse racing on P & O's Australia Line. But they also auction of ea race as heats. That way they sell the same horse over and over. If I remember right the winners of the heats goes into a grand final.

If you were not lucky enough to win a horse you could bet on the horses.

I've never seen it, either on the Diamond/Golden or Sapphire in the past 5 years.

Not something I'd like......we raised horses for many years and I always thought horse racing was another form of animal abuse.......I know, I know, they're only wooden.....but it would still turn me off!!!!! But that's just me!!!!!! Please don't come after me with a wooden horse!!!!!
