Neilio Posted February 24, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2010 My wife and I are getting ready to book the Silver Spirit Sailing June 5 Venice to Athens. Our first silversea and first cruise. We will be celebrating 5 year anniversary. We are in our 40's. I had a couple of questions and very much appreciate the responses. We have read this board and have learned so much from all the posts/Q&A. We are planning mid-ship veranda suite on deck 7. On the formal nights is the entire ship formal or just the main dining room? I know we can eat in our suite. Was wondering if we could reserve one of the other restaurants or even the "hot rocks" dining? Are there 2 tv's in each suite and one or both have DVD capability? Was not clear on that. Has anyone indulged in any of the spa treatments? Did not see any postings and wanted to solicit feedback on your experience. With regard to Seishen Restaurant. I love sushi and fish. My wife will not eat raw fish/food. Does anyone know if they offer cooked fish or anything else in place of raw? We did not see a lot of information posted related to Stars Supper Club. Any feedback/reviews would be appreciated. As we plan our evenings wanted to see if this is worth a dinner stop? I know we will have some more questions and appreciate the responses. We're really excited and looking forward to this. neilio

CASHIPman Posted February 24, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 24, 2010 La Terrazza offers an alternative to formal attire as does the "Hot Rocks" restaurant. There are no DVD's in the room as the suites have a large selection of movies-on-demand. Each stateroom has two TV's STARS isn't (IMHO) a true dining venue but, depending on the performer it's a great space. (Alfreda is excellent but she'll disembark in Valparaiso next month). Regarding Seishin...I don't like fish at all and they could accommodate me. I'm sure they'll accommodate your wife's wishes.
oregon50 Posted February 25, 2010 #4 Share Posted February 25, 2010 Craig, I appreciate your taste in wine, not so much on entertainment. Stars is much too small a room and Spirit too small a ship for Alfreda. She has her followers and she knows how to play a room....but please, do it elsewhere. Lots of entertainment on the ship....quantity, not quality. Younger and new to SS, the OP fits the Spirit's demographic group. Spirit as a world cruise vessel will not succeed....just take a poll of the fifty 2007 (world) clients currently onboard.
DebbieH103 Posted February 25, 2010 #5 Share Posted February 25, 2010 I saw a number of people getting all 15 items at Stars for the whole tasting, then they added pasta and upped it to 18. They were discouraging it a lot since there is such limited seating, but those doing it loved the experience. I tended toward one or two of the tastings, and you get 3 tastes for each item ordered. The one I got a few times was faux gras, frog leg, and scallop. There is a dessert one and a sushi one and some others. They encouraged people to go casual at the hot stone. We did not do it on a formal night but did it on informal night. We still dressed in the informal attire, as we did not want to go around the ship dressed all casual after dinner when others were more dressed up. If you don't have intentions of going to the late show or casino or whatever, just go casual there. We did not do Seishin because of the raw, but I know the manager there was working with people on alternatives once she got feedback. See her a day in advance. The two TVs work off the same remote but can be controlled separately by being in the correct area of the cabin. They show not only TV and the on demand movies, but they let you view your bill and some info on the ship.
PebmarshPete Posted February 25, 2010 #6 Share Posted February 25, 2010 La Terrazza offers an alternative to formal attire as does the "Hot Rocks" restaurant. I'm getting a bit confused (not unusual for me ;)) regarding formal nights. Does the dress code apply everywhere else i.e. to Le Champagne and Seishin as well as the main restaurant please? TIA

CASHIPman Posted February 25, 2010 #8 Share Posted February 25, 2010 Craig, I appreciate your taste in wine, not so much on entertainment. Stars is much too small a room and Spirit too small a ship for Alfreda. I think you have me confused with someone else as I don't really talk about wine. STARS may be a small room, but Alfreda works it, and works it well. She's able to make a personal connection with each of the attendees. I enjoyed her more in STARS than I did when she was in the main lounge, but to each their own!

How do you compare her to the Wind? When you say they accommodated you in Seishin, what do you mean (what did you have there)? Thanks, Paul
