SAC69 Posted February 26, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 26, 2010 I just saw a commercial on TV touting cruises as low as $70 a day with the tag line that almost everything is included. We all know that the "almost" is huge. Just had to throw out a comment on this.

G'ma Posted February 26, 2010 #9 Share Posted February 26, 2010 All of the basics are included in the price of your cruise...with the exception of gratuities. If you choose to spend more, that's on you. Theoretically, one could cruise without spending a dime....and a few have been on CC over the past few years. One poster not too long ago had a account balance of 6.50 at the end of the week.....
Tbay-eh Posted February 26, 2010 #10 Share Posted February 26, 2010 I don't know anywhere else that I can get a floating room, meals, entertainment, different ports, gym, impecible service and I don't have to have a DD drive me home. The only thing that would make it better is if they gave you a GPS so you could find your room, I am directionally challenged and always getting lost. ragen Posted February 26, 2010 #15 Share Posted February 26, 2010 about to go on my 10'th Cruise,.... and My ship board account is always low,.... all it has on it is: Our Prepaid Tips,.....and 2 Photos (My own preset allowed Limit for photos.) & NOTHING ELSE. No Soda Cards,..... No On Board Shopping,.... No Bingo,.... No Ship Bought Drinks,.... No Casino Visits, No Spa Visits,... Etc. But Still Always Have a Great Time,....For Free: Good Buffets, Great Main Dining Room Experinces, ok Shows and Comedy etc for free in Showroom, Hot Tubs, Swimming Pools, Beach Days, Waterslides, Mini-Golf,......People Watching,....Dancing,..... Port Exploring on My Own, (not ship excursions) Live Musicians,....Piano bars,.(do not buy drinks, bring my own free from buffet area.) and so much more that don't cost me an extra penny. as far as drinks go,.....both soft drinks or alcohol, it's simple: soft drinks, 1'st bring a six pack of DR.Pepper on board with me, (this is allowed because thay don't sell it on ship) 2'nd always bring a pack of those little single serve packets of Kool-aid powder with me to add to the free Iced Tea/Lemonade on board to give it some flavor. 3'rd it's never that hard to sneak resonable amounts/bottles of alcohol for mixed drinks on board, both when boarding or when reboarding at visited ports if you're smart about it. to make you're own cheep mixed drinks. (you can bring more soda onboard from ports easily as well in small amounts. (few cans at a time, not cases.) anyway, I know I'm cheep, But I've never had a bad cruise yet! (oh btw, I do occasionaly splirge, and on each new ship I sail, I do buy a ship model to add to my collection,.....or visit Palo upcharge dining 1 night when on the Disney Ships.)
InEEDofAcruise Posted February 26, 2010 #16 Share Posted February 26, 2010 I think some of you purposely missed the OP's point (more "CARNIVAL, CARNIVAL, RAHH, RAHH, RAHH!"). Anyways, the OP was commenting about how the commercial implys almost everthing is included in the $70 per night fare.... Certinaly misleading since "almost" in this case means everything except for tips, taxes, port charges, drinks, some foods and resturants, photos, and I am sure plenty more that doesnt immediately come to mind. Are they lying, no... but it is certainly disingenuous to suggest "almost" everything is included for $70 per night, when the more accurate statement would be 50-75% of your cruise is included in your $70 fare if you expect to have to pay taxes, port charges, grats, want to drink soda or alcohal, etc.
truchattycathy Posted February 26, 2010 #17 Share Posted February 26, 2010 It is a commercial meant to promote Carnival. What do you want them to say? As far as $70 a day including almost everything. I cruise for that including auto tips and taxes. Some trips I am very conservative and owe almost nothing at the end of my cruise and some trips I splurge. Depends on how much I have available. It is still the best deal for my money hands down.

Most are in the $50 to $60 range.
Cruise, J.D. Posted February 26, 2010 #19 Share Posted February 26, 2010 I don't have a problem with the commercial and I am usually very critical of over-the-top advertising. I think it gives fair warning that not everything is included. I actually think the AI advertising is much worse. When you take a close look at venues promoted as "all inclusive" the all inclusiveness fades away. They definitely do not live up to the literal meaning of the phrase. bobbyleduck Posted February 26, 2010 #21 Share Posted February 26, 2010 What kind of cruises are you people doing that only cost $50 per person, including a single supplement? We're sailing a B2B to Hawaii, 12 days each, aboard Spirit, and I thought we were doing great at $72.35 per person, per day for everything. That includes cruise, port fees, taxes and tips. It also includes offsets for OBC and Discover Card Cashback Bonus. Of course, we get 24 days of cruising and 13 days in the Hawaiian Islands. Happy cruising to all! Bob P.S. We'll be traveling by train from Portland to Vancouver, will be staying at my brother's timeshare, and have a free trip back from San Diego on Southwest Air, so additional cost for travel and hotel is only $326 for two. Yes tips, taxes and port charges are added no matter what. No one is forced to buy the extra drinks, food , restaurant visits, photos, alcohol, ect. They tell people up front it will need to be paid for. And even tips can be removed  by someone that could stiff the staff like that. They give you a nice room, clean it twice a day, feed you in style in a MDR and casual in Lido deck or any of the many specialty areas on the Lido deck. Iced tea, juices and Lemonaid are included in the price. Even room service is free. I'm not being a cheerleader but I really think your reasoning is flawed if you think that they are being misleading because they don't include all of the "extras" in the price. I'd rather my cruise price stay reasonable and those of you that want all the extras can just buy them, but then thats me (and I actually do buy a lot of the extras, and I've never felt forced to) I think they have a great value at a great price and I'm liking them. Cheers, Carole
