cruzmaven Posted February 26, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 26, 2010 I have an A3 cabin reserved on the Epic. The cabin holds up to 6 people, there will be 3 of us in it. My son, (22) will also be with us but he prefers his own cabin and I have him booked in a studio. It would be less expensive for us to just book him as a 4th person in the A3. So....while I understand that the rule is non-suite guests to not have access to the suite perks, in this instance, since there's room available in our cabin but we're spending more $$$ for him to have his own cabin, can he be considered part of our reservation and take advantage of the suite perks. Or, can I double book him as both a 4th person in our cabin and his own res in the studio? I think the answer to this is going to be no, but I was curious if anyone had experience with a similar situation. This is our first time on NCL, so not familiar with the ins and outs of their policies.
DMH15 Posted February 27, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 27, 2010 Even though you will be spending more, look at it from the other side... NCL makes less off this scenario. If he bunks with you in the A3 they still have the studio to lease to another which means more revenue. I was in a similar situation last year when I booked an AC on the Sun and thought I'd be sailing solo and paying 200%, but my mom ended up going. I originally asked on the NCL board if I could possibly take my cousin (from an inside), to breakfast at Cagney's maybe once or twice. I was flamed, but several folks were really nice. Ultimately, I have read enough threads on the NCL to realize it depends on the discretion of the Concierge and possibly Hotel Director on board. I have learned not to expect any exceptions, but sometimes they happen.
philatiger Posted February 28, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 28, 2010 Like DMH stated it is up to the concierge. The epic has considerably more suites than the other ships so they may be more restrictive due to the increase in the number of passengers. Seems to me that NCL should consider your request, but consider this. Their goal is 110% plus occupancy. While you have paid more than if your son just used your room, you have just taken the ability for the ship to sell one addtional room. I look forward to hearing how they choose to handle this. I have booked the Garden Villa in the past and it should be interesting to see how NCL handles this larger number of suite guests.

If he is doubled booked as in booked and paid as a 4th guest in suite and booked and paid for a studio, he would be entitled to suite perks because HE IS PAID as a 4th guest. I do not see how NCL could deny access to the perks. Some people are booking 2 studios and using the extra room as a storage for their luggage - they have a double booking and have access to TWO rooms. If your son is booked for the studio ONLY under your reservation, he is not entitled to suite perks.
cruzmaven Posted March 2, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted March 2, 2010 Thank you all for the replies. I think the proper way to do this would be to double book him in the studio and as a 4th in the A3. But I don't think I'm going to do that, just seems wasteful. I'm going to get him to bite the bullet and be the 4th person in the A3. That way there's no confusion and no questions. A3 is listed for up to 6 people so the 4 of us should be fine. Thanks again.

Four will be fine - 2 in the master suite and the other two can decide to share the small bedroom (one on the sofa bed and one in the bunk) or the 4th can have the sleeper sofa in the living room. GigCrusier Posted March 3, 2010 #11 Share Posted March 3, 2010 This will get you started: http://www.nclsuitesandvillas.com/pages/suitesvillasmore.php Thanks... Time2Cruise1. That list is helpful. When I had a Garden Villa on the Star, the suite came stocked with 7-bottles of booze. There were 5 of us in the suite. I wonder if there will be a choice of Liquor provided for Courtyard Villas. The list you shared also said there was internet access, but it did not say the access was complimentary or not... I seem to recall that we had to pay for the internet time. Do you have any insight on this? I am curious if you are affilated with NCL? I look forward to your reply and thanks again for the link.

I have huge investment in NCL. 25+ NCL cruises using my hard earned money :D Internet is not free :( Last numbers I recall are 6 bottles for the GV and 3 for the Owner's Suites. Sorry none in the CVs. I just bit the bullet and ordered the bar setup last 3 times I was in a CV.
garycarla Posted March 3, 2010 #14 Share Posted March 3, 2010 No free internet anywhere. Even in the Villa. When we staying in the CV, we got to know the folks in the GV (two guys, total). They drank very little and therefore shared their stash with others. They had wine coming and going due to gifts from NCL and casino.
AmyinVail Posted March 5, 2010 #15 Share Posted March 5, 2010 I know my opinion is the minority, but as your son, he should be entitled to have suite perks...even with the argument that NCL can't have the revenue from the studio you got him....they could sell 3 studios and still not make as much from your ONE A3 reservation. You could have the studio to store your luggage and your son sleeps/stays in the suite.....regardless, as an immediate, PAYING family member - I would take him to the lounge. I'm sure I'll get beaten up over this opinion... If it were your sister, an aunt - a friend - in the studio...that's an entirely different story. You say if it were your sister, aunt or a friend, it would be different so how would a son or daughter not be in the same category? Anyone can lie and say someone is my son or daughter - they don't have to have the same last name if you were remarried. Someone should not get suite perks unless they are booked in a suite. Why do people that disagree with a poster but agree with the cruise line's policy always get belittled and ridiculed even if they reply nicely? I mean it's one thing if people are rude and call you names, but when everyone is still civil and polite? I don't think anyone is coming down on you..., at least I wasn't trying too. I know that is her son but unless he is booked as a guest in the suite with his mom and not in a studio(even though mom is footing the bill), why should he have suite perks? Look at it this way..., say my mother wanted me to go on a cruise with her. My friend hears about it and wants to join us. My friend is going to pay his own way and wants a studio while mom is paying for a suite for both of us to share. Both mom and I would like my friend to be able to enjoy the suite perks too and we put my friends reservation with mom's. Mom can easily argue that my friend is her son and should get suite perks. Would this be fair? I don't think so. NCL would have no idea whether this person is a son or not.

garycarla Posted March 9, 2010 #23 Share Posted March 9, 2010 So, my Mom and Dad are in a suite. As their son, I could not afford it and got an inside. So, one poster says it should be alright for me to go to Cagneys for breakfast and lunch with her. Her opinion. Okay, now another brother is going on the cruise as well. He is getting his own cabin. Can he go? Oops. Just found her two daughters and their husbands are going. Can they go to Cagney's too? After all, Mom paid for the suite and she is entitled to the perks, right? Oh yea, there are 4 grandchildren in this group that want to eat with Grandma as well. Just sayin.
