How far is it to Riverwalk from ES. Walking distance? Specifically looking to go to The Downtowner Saloon. Old family friends own it and want to surprise them...

It's about 2 miles. Walk west on 17th St. Turn right on Andrews Ave. Just before you get to the drawbridge, you turn right and it's there on the water.

If you don't want to walk that far, you could take the #40 bus. www.broward.org/bct You would catch the westbound #40 bus across the street from your hotel. The bus ride is only about 5 minutes or so. You would get off the bus right before the Andrews Ave bridge (basically, you want to get off at the bus stop that's in front of the Broward County Jail). If you don't want to take the bus, it is a short inexpensive taxi ride from your hotel.

Even easier, walk down to the Hyatt Pier 66 and jump on the water taxi. One of the stops is the Downtowner Saloon.

Wow, thanks everyone for the info. 2miles is an easy walk for us but is it safe @ nite. Bus sounds easy and probably cheap. Is water taxi $15 for all day?

I would recommend that you do not walk this route (the part that's on Andrews Ave) at night. It's not that it's inherently a bad area, it's just that most of the businesses on that stretch will be closed after dark, and you may very well be the only pedestrians on Andrews Ave. Best not to walk on a deserted street at night. A taxi would be your best bet after dark. It's a short ride and inexpensive. Take the bus up until dusk.

Yes $15pp all day/night until closing. Water Taxi is about a 5 block walk from the ES.
