Fantasy - Room key and safe

Your S&S card doubles as your room key. The safes open to a card with a magnetic strip like a credit card, but if there is any issue with it, you'll have just ruined your cc. Best suggestion is an old gift card that you've used or something like that that you wont care about if something unforeseeable happens.

Do you use your sign and sail card for your room key on the Fantasy?

How do you open the safe on the Fantasy, ie credit card, code etc.

i was just on the fantasy in sept, cabin e181 inside, and it had a key pad. i really liked it. no more hiding the magnetic card for the other person in the cabin too also be able too use . dont use your sail and sign for the safe . a tip i got from here on the boards..

Glad to hear the Fantasy has changed to the four digit code safes. As some of you have said the old gift card was a pain to stash in the cabin for the other to use.

When we sailed the Fantasy (a few moons ago prior to evolution of fun upgrade) you had the magnetic reader.

Well, the ones with a card reader..say to use a credit card.

That was in my wallet, which I planned to lock in the safe.

So, what did I do..I used my S&S card..worked like a charm.

Then, I think on the 2nd or 3rd day, I noticed something laying

flat inside the safe...it was the instructions, (our safe was at eye

level and it was not noticable) saying Not to use your S&S card.

I kept on using it the whole cruise. My wife had no desire to lock

anything up, so hiding a card was not an issue.

I still wonder why it says not to use your S&S card:confused:

I think in the past they had some issues with passengers going to reception saying their card didn't work in the cabin door anymore. They asked if they used their S&S to lock and unlock the safe and it was the common thread.

Because don't the S&S cards still have your stateroom number printed on them?

So if you lose your S&S, someone could get into your room, and then also open your safe.

I hate the magnetic card safes. Such a stupid idea. My magnetic cards (credit cards, etc.) belong IN THE SAFE!!!

Carnival can't switch to PIN-based safes fast enough, in my opinion!

Just got off the Fantasy in February. The safes have a 4-digit code that you program in yourself. It was very easy to do.

Yay!

Totally Agree!!

My wallet goes in the safe and my purse is stashed away in a suitcase.

I think... Because the point of the safe is to prevent someone who gets in your room from getting to your valuables. If the same card opens the door and the safe - there's no point in having a safe!

I didn't like the card swipe safes. Give me the keypad.

Ok, that makes sense...I guess.

I have seen some people very careless with their cards, barely sticking it in a pocket or something like that.

I keep mine on a lanyard around my neck so I don't worry about losing it.

I don't remember my S & S card having my room number on it anywhere. Last time I was on the Fantasy our safe was the kind where you selected your own 4 digit PIN number. My next cruise will be on the Elation and Iunderstand it's the old kind that you have to use a card on. I was told you could use a blank gift card which is what I'm going to try.

I don't know why they even have safes on Carnival ships, everyone knows those passengers don't have anything worth stealing..

I have to keep my RumRunners in there. :D

Also, my dirtiest, most ripped-up jean shorts to wear on elegant night. :D :D :D

Actually it has more to do with the magnetic strip and how it is encoded. The S&S card uses a low density encoder to put the information on it. It is also one of the reasons some of the ladies that have a magnet on their purse clasp will have their S&S cards erased or if you leave your card next to your cell phone. The magnet in the speaker can erase it.

Or think about it..... If someone has your room number, they can not only gain access to your room but your safe...... I would suggest it would not be hard to get.

Cabin numbers were taken off the S&S cards in 2009.

Dave

Correct but that doesn't stop anyone foolish enough to say it loud enough to be overheard though. I.E., "Hey Bill, what's your cabin number?...." I always leave my S&S card in my backpack so it could easily happen to me.
