Suite Upgrade Calls/Options

I just read in the Conquest 3/28 Roll Call thread that someone had received a call to upgrade to a suite.

What is the policy on upgrades being available/offered? Do I call Carnival directly and ask if they're available? Do I try the TA? Is it something that can be requested? Or are upgrades only done at the offering of the cruise line.

We've done suite before (with Carnival) several times. This time, went balcony...but, if there are upgrades available, I'd welcome considering them.

Thoughts?

They are a crap shoot.. you can always request to your TA or PVP to be put on the upsell call list.. if there is infact one... ;)

I dont think there is a list per se, I think they just put notes on your booking my PVP says. She tells me she always adds them ... but I have yet to get the magical call.

Yup I agree.. I have never received the call either.. but I would never take it either.. since I always book aftwraps.. can't get any better than that in our books:D

We cruiesed on the victory im may'09 and had booked a mini suite. I called my PVP 2-3 times a week, just to let him know that we would be interested in an upsell to a GS if the price was right:D. this went on for about a month before we cruised( i know the poor man was tired of me calling:rolleyes:) 2 days before our flight to PR, WE GOT THE CALL!!! Upsell to Gs for $500(total) for 3 people for a 7 night cruise. It was WONDERFUL. Course now DH wont stay in anythign BUT a GS:cool:. I dont know if my "nagging" the PVP had anything to do with it, but hey, we got the upsell|!!!

lol, you sound like me. In fact, I'm convinced that I no longer receive emails from Carnival because they'd rather save themselves the stress. Too funny.

I keep seeing these threads - is there a benefit to getting 'the call'? Seems like they're just asking if you want to move up a level.. or are they offering this for free (or a discounted rate)? Seems pretty crazy if you book a balcony and get upgraded to a suite for free...

I agree! On my last cruise I had an aft wrap booked and got a call to upgrade to a suite. "No thanks", I said! My next cruise is an aft wrap suite on the Legend.

We're booked in an "ocean view" on deck 1 on the Legend ..the wife asked if we could get an upgrade to a balcony.

I called the 800# and the specialist I spoke with said for $720 (that's $315 for the 1st and 2nd traveler, $90 for the third) we could get a balcony...

The wife thought that was too steep, so we'll enjoy what little time we'll spend in the ocean view ....(sleeping, showering, changing clothes...)

The specialist said that "rates change" so I might not want to wait too long if I wanted to upgrade.

The OP is talking about upSELLS which are discounted. The last post sounds like they called Carnival and are discussing the regular rates to upGRADE. Upgrade and upsell are different.

I think some are talking about both here to be honest. The upsells lately havent been that good of deals like they were when that dept first started.

We recently sailed on the Valor and 2 days before we left, we received an upsell call. They were wanting to upgrade us from a balcony on the spa deck to a suite on deck 7 for $500. We didn't take it, but the guy I spoke to said that the only reason it was being offered was because of a last minute cancellation. I guess it's easier for them to offload a suite to someone who's already paid in a bunch of money than trying to find someone to drop a couple grand at the last minute.

I received an upsell call last night for a suite. I'm thinking they target the rooms with 3 people before anyone else. She was really selling me on the fact that us 3 girls would have much more room. We didn't take it, we'd rather spend the extra $170 each on board or excursions, we already have a balcony.

  • 1 month later...

Hey,

I just got "THE CALL" and they upgraded us to a GS from an OS for $400. Hope it is worth it. At the start of the call the agent offered the upgrade at a rate of $600, told him thanks but that was too much money, he came back at $400. Hmmmmm...wonder if I should have held out a little longer?

We usually book an OC, but this time a balcony was just $100 more total so we went with that.:D

I have got 2 upsell calls in the past 8 months Fire, And didn't take either of them due to the very little reduction in full price.. So, I agree that the GOOD UPSELL DEALS are getting harder to come by..:(
