Help w/Puerto Cortes Honduras

In a pickle now. Leaving for the cruise in 9 days and when I went to review the excursion's on HAL's website the offerings had dwindled down to 4 with one wait listed. None of the other three sound remotely interesting and are pricey and involve a big time commitment. Is there anything you can do on your own in this port? Seemed a bit dicey from some other travelers reports so not sure it would be safe or of any value to set out on our own. Our agent works with an independent tour group but they only offer one trip here and again, involves a long bus commute and hiking and little else. Any advice??????????
