blueboro Posted March 15, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 15, 2010 On our last X cruise in 2005 we were given mimosas or champagne upon boarding. We also got cold hand towels when arriving back to the ship after being onshore. DO they still do this? Thought it was a nice touch.
eandj Posted March 15, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 15, 2010 (edited) Yes!!!!:) Along with the wet towels, they also have cold water and punch as you return to the ship...at least on warm weather cruises. Edited March 15, 2010 by eandj
Amagamma Posted March 15, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 15, 2010 Yes to the champagne/mimosas and also to the cold towels when returning to ship. They also still hand out the cold towels and also sorbet by the pool on sea days. It is a very nice touch.

Snorkel2Much Posted March 15, 2010 #6 Share Posted March 15, 2010 (edited) Can't passengers use the stairs? If you're mobility impaired, probably not. Edited March 15, 2010 by Snorkel2Much
PartyAllDaTyme Posted March 15, 2010 #7 Share Posted March 15, 2010 On Solstice in January, there was an older crewman helping hand out towels and asking returning cruisers if they were enjoying themseles. He was in uniform, but it was more of a duty uniform than dress whites-- just one of many Celebrity underlings going about his assigned duties for the day. It wasn't until I was reading a post about Captain Demetrios Kafetzis that I realized that the "crewman" was in fact most likely the good Captain himself:cool:! greg_atlanta Posted March 15, 2010 #9 Share Posted March 15, 2010 sorbet by the pool on sea days. On Summit they handed out fruit kabobs by the pool (not sorbet). Upon boarding in San Juan around 4 pm the champagne and mimosas were just sitting on a tray, not handed out by a waiter -- and flutes only filled halfway. I would have stayed for free refills.... but it was raining. Champagne is more fun with the sun's out.
FinelyCruising Posted March 15, 2010 #10 Share Posted March 15, 2010 We have seen the pool sorbet/fruit very hit or miss.
Amagamma Posted March 15, 2010 #11 Share Posted March 15, 2010 We just got back from the Feb 28th sailing on the Solstice, and we had cold towels at three of our four ports (4th is was too cold to want a towel), and had them at the pool on both sea days. Also the sorbet on both sea days.
sammamishcruiser Posted March 16, 2010 #12 Share Posted March 16, 2010 We got ICE cold towels on our Panama Canal cruise on the Infinity in September. Also ice water or fruit punch. They had a "mini" living room set up on the pier. very cute;) BTW, on our Alaska cruise with Celebrity, they had hot cocoa or chicken broth and cookies handed out. This was not done on the pier but after you "ding" in. Very nice touch!! In was not really cold in Alaska, but still a nice welcome back treat!:) Enjoy your cruise Melody:D
packedandready Posted March 16, 2010 #13 Share Posted March 16, 2010 OK...what is a mimosa (other than a tree)? You can tell I'm not a drinker.
jerseygirl3 Posted March 16, 2010 #14 Share Posted March 16, 2010 OK...what is a mimosa (other than a tree)? You can tell I'm not a drinker. A mimosa is a mix of orange juice and champagne. For those who are non-drinkers, there is straight o.j. available when you board.
FTLcruisers Posted March 16, 2010 #15 Share Posted March 16, 2010 hmmm... Not on our Solstice in Feb. We were on Solstice for the 2/14 sailing and we got the champagne, towels and water/punch mentioned here.

Crafty Fitzwilly Posted March 16, 2010 #17 Share Posted March 16, 2010 Yes, when we boarded at 3:00 p.m. there were various servers there with drink trays to greet you and offer you either a mimosa or a flute of champagne. You are not charged for the welcome mimosa or champagne. They will come around at the beginning of the brunch held during sea day and offer mimosas then as well, but you will have to sign for them afterwards and will be charged if you accept one at the brunch... which is absolutely wonderful by the way. It was held from 10:30 to 1:00 on the day before we returned to San Juan. Always a wonderful reception coming back on board at the ports. There were stations set up with someone with tongs giving you an ice cold rolled face cloth (with small ice chips still clinging to it), another person dispensing cold fruit punch or water as you come by, another welcoming you back and asking if you had a good day. Same for the Equinox sailing on the 26th. I also noticed while I was walking around the boarding area after 1:30P that the stateroom attendants were all lined up and as people boarded they escorted them to their rooms. I hadn't seen that for awhile and thought it a forgotten tradition. A nice touch!
eandj Posted March 16, 2010 #22 Share Posted March 16, 2010 (edited) We were on Solstice for the 2/14 sailing and we got the champagne, towels and water/punch mentioned here. As I noted in an earlier post, we DID have the above. I was referring to the sorbet and fruit picks missing at the pool. Sorry you misunderstood. Rare printingchick Posted June 28, 2018 #24 Share Posted June 28, 2018 Sorry to dredge up an OLD post, but I've booked my first cruise on Royal and I'm wondering these welcome aboard drinks are still common practice when boarding a Celebrity ship. If it matters, I'll be on Summit.
Rare Jim_Iain Posted June 28, 2018 #25 Share Posted June 28, 2018 Yes the boarding drinks are still available upon arrival on the ship.
