philphi Posted March 17, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 17, 2010 We booked a spring break cruise leaving 3/28 because it was closer, but now I keep hearing about this fog issue in Galveston and am getting worried! Is this a constant thing with Galveston or hit or miss? I am starting to think that I should have booked out of Florida. What are others Thoughts?
truchattycathy Posted March 17, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 17, 2010 I am no expert, I have only sailed out of Galveston four times, but we never had an issue with fog. Don't worry, you will still have a great cruise!
JDsafeman Posted March 17, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 17, 2010 We have sailed many times out of Galveston. Only twice have we had delays due to fog. It is truly a hit or miss thing. We drive down from Dallas and always arrive a day early. Most of the fog delays have been for a few hours. These delays add stress to the boarding schedules but you will get on the ship and have a great vacation. Other ports have weather delays also, not just Galveston. Enjoy your cruise... philphi Posted March 17, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted March 17, 2010 Thanks, I just read about carnival passangers roaming the streets with their luggage looking for hotel rooms because the ship couldnt come in becuse of the fog, and missed ports etc. and I was thinking what a mistake I made. golfadj Posted March 17, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 17, 2010 It happens on occasion. Mobile seems to be much worse.
dlbaqua Posted March 17, 2010 #6 Share Posted March 17, 2010 I'm on the same sailing as you I've cruised out of Galveston 6 times before and never encountered fog. If we do, my mom leaves in Houston, we can all just go crash at her place
arush5268d Posted March 17, 2010 #7 Share Posted March 17, 2010 Fear not; the vast majority of sailings out of Galveston are not affected by fog. Relax, enjoy your cruise!
*Mach* Posted March 17, 2010 #8 Share Posted March 17, 2010 Fog is just a function of weather. The closer we get to summer the less likely we are to encounter fog. I'm bettin' you'll be just fine! :)
philphi Posted March 17, 2010 Author #9 Share Posted March 17, 2010 not to switch subjects here, but I kind of get the impression we may be in the minority not being from texas on this cruise?:D
arush5268d Posted March 17, 2010 #10 Share Posted March 17, 2010 A lot of Texas cruisers on the Conquest and Ecstasy. There's a lot of people from the midwest states that cruise out of Galveston also.
firefly333 Posted March 17, 2010 #11 Share Posted March 17, 2010 Iv only had hurricane Ike, no fog issues lol. Weather is always hit or miss. No one can predict fog or unusally hot or cold...we roll the dice.
SoonerOne Posted March 18, 2010 #12 Share Posted March 18, 2010 We've cruised out of Galveston the last 3 years in a row and twice had fog:eek:. First time our departure was delayed and last month we were very late getting back in, 2:00 pm. So it does happen, just don't let it ruin your cruise:)

mudpievelour Posted March 18, 2010 #14 Share Posted March 18, 2010 We have cruised out of Galveston 5 times and never encountered fog. I'd be more worried that it might be cold/raining rather than fog. I once boarded in October and it was sleeting. That didn't stop us.:D:D
MikeM Posted March 18, 2010 #15 Share Posted March 18, 2010 Cruised out of Galveston once and had fog on both ends of trip. Only an hour late in returning. Never a fog issue on all of are other trips. Knock on wood.
ed_k_tx Posted March 18, 2010 #16 Share Posted March 18, 2010 Fog is usually a problem during the colder months. It's starting to warm up here so I don't think you should have a problem. We were delayed on the Conquest in Feb 08 but managed to slip out in time to make all the ports. Don't worry about too many Texans. Very nice. Even the transplants from Chicago, like me.:D
nybumpkin Posted March 18, 2010 #17 Share Posted March 18, 2010 We were on the same cruise as SoonerOne last month. I'm a webcam watcher, so I knew about the possibility of fog and late arrivals/departures. What's interesting is that we've done four cruises from New York to Canada and fog is a regular event on those cruises - but we've docked in Saint John and Halifax in dense fog with no problem. One time we didn't even know we were docking until the thrusters kicked in. I assume Galveston's different because of the heavy traffic in and out of the channel.
