Best Month For Baltic Cruise

Four of us are planning a Baltic Cruise in 2011 and they're starting to come up now; which Month is best for less rain? Don't mind the coolness; hate the heat. We were thinking May?

Any advice is appreciated.

In my opinion the best time to visit the Baltic area is from middle of May untill late June. And then again late August and September.

July and August usually have more rain and there is the risk of hot weather that can make city sightseeing uncomfortable.

But in the end it is always a matter of luck. The weather varies a lot from the awarage, and at almost any time during the season there can be anything from warm and sunny to cold, windy and rainy weather. Come prepared for all alternatives.

Most agree that you odds are better in the June through August period. Maybe even more narrowed to mid June through mid August. We were there in late July and early August, having super great weather, except for the last evening and morning going to the airport in Stockholm. Below are a couple of visual samples from my pictures of those sunny, blue skies in St. Petersburg and Copenhagen. May is possible, but a little cooler, on average.

For Stockholm, here are the averages for the five key months:

May: 52/40 °F

June: 69/52 °F

July: 71/56 °F

August: 68/54 °F

September: 57/49 °F

you can look up historic data for certain days and locations in the Baltics.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

We cruised mid august (12-24) and had spectacular weather. I hate to say it for fear of jinxing any future crusie or vacations, but we did 7 days in London pre and post cruise and one day in Paris, PLUS our 12 day cruise, and I hate to say it, but we only had ONE day of rain the entire time and it was not even a soaker, just a few showers.

One simply cannot predict the weather. Before we went, we read on these boards, how it rained so hard in certain ports people didn't even want to get off the ship, so you just go and hope for the best. I do agree that June thru

August are the best times to travel. Like Terry, having a big blue sky can transform a good picture into a great picture. Here are a few of my pix to show you what I mean
